Worried again
As soon as I'm about to have my booster (third vaccine) I start reading about people getting ill from the booster. I'm already edgy, because so many people I know have been ill from having their booster and I'm scared it's going to happen to me. It's worse when you know you're going to be ill, like all I'll be doing for the next day after having the booster is waiting to be ill. What is it about this booster that is making so many people react badly to it?
I heard if you've had Pfizer the first two times then they can't give you Pfizer for the third time, instead they'll give you moderna or MRNA or whatever it is - but I hope they don't give me AZ because I heard that one has an increased risk of life-threatening blood clots in the under 50s. Maybe the moderna is unfamiliar to the body and will cause a reaction. I wish they'll just give me Pfizer again.
It's just as soon as you have your booster you're suddenly invited to have the forth jab. But I've heard a lot of pro-vaxxers saying they don't want any more jabs. My friend has just texted me saying she had her booster and has been ill for a few days from it, and she's not the only person I know who have had the same happen.
Is there a way I can lessen my chances of getting ill, like taking a painkiller even if I have no pain, to lessen any fever or flu-like symptoms that might occur?

I took my mother for her booster today and they gave her Moderna, after two Pfizers. They said it was because they ran out of Pfizer. We made a stink and complained and tried everything to get Pfizer but she opted to do it instead of waiting an indefinite length of time for Pfizer to be available again. She felt dizzy after it but she's 83 and that's to be expected at her age.
My daughter was fine when she had three Pfizers. I don't know anyone else who had a booster yet.
AZ is no longer offered here.
I guess ultimately there's nothing you can do if you're certain you want a booster. I know you were super worried before your first two and they went just fine. I hope your booster is the same.
Oh I forgot to say you can take Paracetamol or any other pain / nausea meds beforehand.
Good luck, Joe

I wasn't going to have the booster, I was forced into it because my boyfriend strongly believes that if you don't get your booster you're no longer protected and you're putting boostered people at risk.
This is what the media is doing, guilting people into getting vaccinated by people saying that no matter how old you are if you don't get vaccinated you will probably end up in hospital on a ventilator or you're being a potential risk to vulnerable loved ones.
But then you get scaremongered out of getting vaccinated by people saying they're getting a bad reaction from the booster and that the vaccines aren't safe because they were rushed and so on.
It's hard to know what to believe. I don't think we should be forced to be vaccinated every 2-3 months, it's too soon. I'm still scared though, I don't want anything but the Pfizer. I'm the sort of person that gets anxious about any possible side effects of anything. I do really like to be cautious of what I put into my body, which is why I don't drink alcohol.

Joe. May I advise.
Make a decision on what you want to do and whatever it is do it and stick to it.
Go with your heart on what you feel is right for you. Then you will have peace.

I don't know what is best, risk my life getting the vaccine or risk my life getting covid. I don't know what is true and what isn't any more. I don't know why there has to be conspiracy theories and anti-vaxxers and scaremongering and lies.

I've had my vaccine today (Pfizer) but I'm feeling very weak and lightheaded, and my heart keeps palpitating and I keep feeling out of breath whenever I try to do physical tasks. This is not new to me as I often get palpitations but they don't normally make me feel lethargic. I don't feel faint or anything but I do feel hot, like sweating. It is a warm night though.
I don't have chest pains. But it's still not very pleasant. Is this to do with the vaccine or could it just be me?

I was the same when I had my first vaccine as it was AZ and I was really scared.
Try to relax. Do breathing exercises. You will be fine.
I'm glad you got the Pfizer one that you preferred.
I was more scared having my first jab but I didn't get these effects.
Although it is similar to anxiety. I'm breathless but not in the same way as you are with covid. Actually, to be honest, I'm starting to quite like this feeling of lethargy and wooziness. But it's not very pleasant when walking around, but nice when I'm sitting or laying.

That definitely sounds more like anxiety than a reaction to the booster IMO. The brain is extremely powerful; if you believe strongly that you are going to have adverse effects to the booster, your brain will make it happen. And I'm talking real physical symptoms. The brain can absolutely do that.
Whereas if someone gave you the booster in your sleep and never told you, you would likely have a completely different physical response. You might not even have any symptoms.
But from a completely scientific standpoint, the booster is just as safe as any other vaccine that the government advises citizens to get. Some people will have mild flu like symptoms, but nothing serious. It's only the extreme rare case that someone has a serious side effect, but that's the case with every vaccine or treatment; that's just medicine. I know these rational arguments don't mean much sometimes, it's a very personal decision. I'm just trying to give you some peace of mind
Hope everything turns out well and you don't get any side effects. Cheers.
I do feel flu-ish, like aching and feeling dizzy. My body hurts to touch. I got like this a little bit with my second jab but not at all for my first - and that was when I was most anxious about the jabs.
Although I have high anxiety I'm not really the sort to think I have a pain. It's like when norovirus was going around where I used to work a few years ago, and I panicked because I have a phobia of vomiting, but I soon reassured myself that I have a strong immunity against stomach flus and that I should be OK if I wash my hands regularly and wear a face mask. But I still caught it two days later and was off work. I only vomited once (because I took an antisickness pill) and I had diarrhea, and I had a temperature and couldn't stop aching. My family caught it as well. But when I came back to work my supervisor told me that I didn't catch the bug and that I only puked because I was anxious about it. No, I did catch the bug, I had all the symptoms and my family caught it too. And I hadn't even physically vomited for 17 years, so it takes a really strong bug or food poisoning to make me vomit, not just anxiety.

I'm sorry to hear that! I wasn't trying to diminish your symptoms; if you are feeling sick due to your booster I hope you get over it quickly and get back to your normal self. And as a side note, not throwing up for 17 years straight sounds like a super power that I would love to have
I'm not throwing up from the vaccine, I was just saying about when I had norovirus a few years ago that was the first time in 17 years I had vomited. I have a phobia of vomiting, and when you have a phobia you kind of keep a mental record of when you last vomited.
With the vaccine I'm just aching and feel like all my glands are swollen. But at least there's no stuffed nose, as I can't stand a stuffed up nose. I wish colds were just aching and chills and not stuffed up noses.

While I am glad that you are doing fine with the side effects of getting the booster shot this part right here concerns me.

In a relationship(or anytime for that matter) you should not ever feel forced to do something that you don't want to especially when it comes to putting things into your body. While I'm sure your boyfriend meant no ill will I would assume he knows about many of the things you talk about on here related to the vaccines and how they are affecting you physically and emotionally.
If not I would consider having a conversation about that because he should be taking into consideration your feelings as well(even if he does have his own issues) and not completely blow off your concerns over a particular situation. Trust me when I say that this stuff builds up if you keep it in(even if you vent on the internet), and can possibly cause a rift between both of you down the road.

My boyfriend is just scared, that's all. He isn't the sort to tell me what to do and not what to do, but with these vaccines he is really freaking out. So it's not him, it's the media that has gotten to him. Fear has been instilled into him and he strongly believes that the unvaccinated are a risk to the vaccinated. And maybe it's true, maybe it's not, nobody knows. The media is known to lie, or at least exaggerate.
