Last year, couldn’t spend with family because of lockdown and catching covid and now this year because half the people have covid.

Just came back from vacation or should I say 2 funerals which I had to fly across the pond and purely by luck, I was told that my household that didn’t go, some people have covid and as a result, I now have to isolate somewhere else and can’t go back until everyone finishes isolation and/or all test negative on the lateral flow test (or antigen) on day 6 and 7.

I’m home sick as hell and was gone for quite a while. Thankfully was tested negative on my day 2. Going back to work soon, dreading it knowing that I’m a keyworker and having high risk or chances of catching it again due to Omicron cases being extremely high.

On the plus side, those that have covid all seem to be experiencing mild symptoms to basically none. But I guess for now.

Covid is ruining my Christmas too. We haven't got it (yet) but half my family have even though they live in different houses and haven't seen each other much. They all seem to have got covid at the same time but from different places/people. So it's only a matter of time before I get covid from somewhere.

These viruses always seem to circulate more smack bang on Christmas week. I'm due for my third jab next week, but if I get covid before then I won't be able to have it for another month, and I really just want to get the jab out of the way. I'm even scared to get a cold, because you've still got to send away for a PCR test, which takes about 3 days to hear the results so you're afraid to go out or go to work until you know for sure. It just sucks. It's like you can't plan anything any more. It's causing stress and anxiety.

I hate China.

I’ve noticed that, especially more so in colder regions like the UK. Since social distancing has been removed, noticed that the rates have soared so high to 100,000+ cases per day and apparently this variant is extremely contagious.

Also, chances of you getting it bad is up to 70% unlikely if you’ve been fully vaccinated and/or have had covid previously.

This year however, we went one step further and spent time with family through zoom. Still sucks, no actual human interaction, even though I would have been perfectly happy with my own company. It would have been perfectly better when you’ve spent weeks away from the country to spend time with them in person.

You can technically get a home test kit, usually antigen (or lateral flow, same thing different name), won’t be any need to head outside your house to do them and usually free to collect at your local pharmacy, usually you have to scan the QR code at some of the pharmacy and fill out a form before you collect one. I know you can get a private PCR home kit but they cost stupid amount of money, not sure if NHS does this in this form other than going to a test site?

Even though the virus was originated from Wu Han in China, other variants were also found in the UK with the Alpha, South Africa with Beta, India with Delta, Brazil with Gemma and now Omicron with South Africa. It’s easy to blame China to start with but the UK is could also be the blame for the mutated Alpha which OMG has to be the worst to catch.

Hopefully Joe you will test negative and be able to get your covid booster jab.

Well that’s s**t luck.

It didn’t change my Christmas much at all this year.

At least omicron is a throat virus with milder symptoms vs lung gelling virus with a higher death rate.

It’ll spread like wildfire and anyone who isn’t vaccinated will get some natural immunity from it while fewer of them die.

Then maybe we’ll be out of this mess by next Christmas.

No we won't, because there'll just be another variant that we've all got to hide from and it'll just go on like that forever.

Did the Spanish Flu keep variating every couple of months?

Probably - they just didn't have the technology to measure & record it and share information like we have today. But the biological processes of viruses evolving have always gone on.

Eventually Covid-19 will mutate and fizzle out - that's the hope, anyways - and Omicron might be the beginning of the end if it's way less dangerous and way more contagious. It'll just be a cold that spreads and them whatever, big worries over now that everyone's caught it and developed antibodies. Then it'll just circulate around the world like every other basic cold or flu. That's the hope, anyways, that a rather benign strain becomes the dominant one and basically just vaccinates people as it spreads like wildfire through the population.

Probably another variant and disguise them as the cold & flu like they done with the swine flu.
