I am only asking this question because I seem to think that even now, some people still perceive that having a mental health problem makes a person ''weak'' and that a ''strong'' person has to show no weakness and show no anxiety or fear and that still in the 21st Century, some societies still dictate that that is how people should be, even in western societies and that to show anxiety, particularly if you are man, its frowned upon by some people. I do sometimes find myself feeling as though I should be ashamed for feeling anxiety when I know I shouldn't because I know very well that lots of people in the UK and around the world struggle with these issues. Surely someone who is suffering mentally and is doing something about it such as talking about it to someone or getting medication for it is actually fighting it in order to regain control of their lives.

I'd say no, it does not.

Every now and then I tell this person (who happens to be freakin amazing and deals with anxiety) that anxiety isn't for the weak. And I stand by that opinion. It's not only hard to live that stuff, it's hard to own it and to fight it. It takes a ton of strength to live that reality. I give no shortage of credit to any and everyone who does that on a regular basis. That can be applied to any mental health issue as far as I'm concerned. To me, the weak cave and get crushed under the weight of it all. But the rest of us? We find a way to carry on despite all that. Do I think we're better because of it? Nah. Just different. And sometimes the things that make us different are the very things that make us amazing. My two cents.

^Very well said, Flea!

A definite no. I think, if anything, it makes us more resilient, more appreciative for the “better” times. What it does do is make life harder.

No. Just unfortunate.

That's like saying everyone who's poor are lazy and they deserved it.

Truth is, there's no such thing as a 'loser'.

Only people who have to deal with what they received throughout their lives -- whether it's given or earned; the genes they're born with, the environment they live in, the socio-economic status, the talents they happened to have, their predisposition, the level of knowledge they have and those around them...

Also yes, mental health issues are not for the weak just do disabilities are.

Yet lessons can be still learnt without any of those to be honest.

Not necessarily weak but it can make us vulnerable to society at times.

I think it does make us weak in some ways. But i hate the "strong devour the weak" mentality so i don't care about being weak.
Also no matter how strong a person they will always have a weak part too, and everyone needs strength from each other sometimes.
There is no shame in that

Most cases it doesn't as mental illnesses are rarely brought on oneself but I think anxiety playing out in certain ways does make people weak. I see a lot of anxious people stuck in a self-fulfilling prophecy where they get anxious because they choose not to take small steps to overcome basic challenges.

Sometimes that can be self imposed but I'm on about smaller niggles of anxiety that isn't even mental illness. Some people I know for example never drive more than a few miles from their homes and as a result, get serious travel anxiety. That's certainly a weakness I think.

No more that having diabetes makes a weak person because of a dud pancreas.
It’s a health issue.

If society had its way we'd still all be locked up and tortured in insane asylums, so society is what's really weak. It doesn't want us to have basic human rights because it doesn't see us as human. Oh how I wish I didn't have to be a human, but that doesn't mean I don't think we should have rights.
