Do people here feel like they are leading a double life with family? Meaning they don’t know the person you are now cuz of Autism? They think you are the same person you were around 10 - 15 years ago. I been emailing my cousin, I feel like she don’t know me anymore.

I often feel misunderstood, but I try to just keep it to myself, though it's hard. I'm sorry that you are feeling this way.

My family treat me like the 16 year old kid I used to be. I’m now 67. I wish I’d just “disappeared” off the map when I was 18 and had no more contact.

Why they treat you like a teenager?

Maybe some people just assume people are like they remember them, especially if they haven't seen them for 10-15 years.

I think some older people just always treat younger relatives like kids even when they're grown adults. They never really accept that they grew up into adults because they're still the younger generation.
