Just now, some lady came to the door to the house, and asked me if I was the home-owner. I asked her, "Why do you ask?", and she wanted to know if I wanted to sell the house. But I answered, "No, thank you. I'm not interested", and she left.

Um, okay, why would ANYONE go around the neighborhood asking people to sell their houses? Really, they LIVE there!

Does anyone else encountered something like this?

All the time. I don't answer the door to strangers but I get voice messages, print messages, and even fridge magnets which are calendars with advertising on them. I used to have a man ride up and down the street on horseback pulling a wagon of fresh produce to give out at each house, with his calling card. He died in a freak accident but that's another story.

At Christmastime I get tree ornaments in the post, with real estate info on the side.

It just doesn't end.

Cause people move and sell their houses. So if you wanted to live in an area if you go around asking you might find someone to whom the right amount of money would interest them in selling and moving

I already have a friend who sells real estate. He's a convicted murder, having offed the man who raped his daughter.

I have a collection of steak knives with his name and number on them. lol.

Again, that's another story.

Wow, really?! This never happened to me 8O

So incredibly rude and intrusive, but around these parts, it's basically unheard off to knock on a stranger's door unless you're in actual need of help or something.

I once had a guy who was a friend of my neighbour and who I'd never talked to and didn't know knock on my door and ask "Can I use your restroom?" My mum and I were just like wtf. If the person who you're coming over to visit doesn't want you using their restroom, we sure as hell don't want you using ours.

We also had a random guy knock on our door thinking that a prostitute lived at our house. We later found out that a prostitute did indeed live at our house before we moved in.

She was probably a real estate agent. I watch this American reality show about a real estate firm and in it they sometimes do stuff like that. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about.

^What if she isn't? She didn't give me her card so I could find info about her.

Then again, I did go back inside right after I said, "No thanks", so can't really confirm whether or not she was a real, um, real estate agent.

They ask because they are speculating that the prices will rize quickly in the near future.

If she isn't, then it was weird, but it's possible that she just didn't react fast enough to give you her card. You could ask your neighbors if they've had a real estate agent come to their door or something.

here is another more frightening twist , this has happened to be a younger woman walked up onto the property and walked all the way around the house, before coming to my door . notcing, i confronted her then asked her if she had noticed the no trespassing signs , threatened to call the police next time . She was associate with a house down the street that were aware from dishonest other neighbors about my cameras on the house , these neighbors were in the business of selling street drugs . Police had told me of these neighbours using other people yards to hide in when the police went to the distribution house for a bust , which they rarely do around here. But these people stroll about this neighbourhood regularily . So might think twice if unfamiliar people show up as to what their intentions are.

Pre covid we got phone calls fairly often asking if we’d sell, and flyers delivered from realtors asking the same. Maybe once we had a realtor knock and ask/deliver a flyer.

Other neighbourhoods would get people knocking and asking regularly - usually it’s someone trying to catch a senior citizen off guard who’s lived there for decades and doesn’t know what the fair market value of their home is, so they agree to sell it way too cheap, then the new buyer resells it for a huge profit right away.

These things only happen regularly in red hot real estate markets. Otherwise they’d be a rarity.

Why?

It’s how they make money.

Every other business advertises and asks people for their business.
