Sorry... that Invision board I had on our commune doesn't work too well, and nobody seems to want to bother registering on a new board anyway! It'll only make it more annoying if people have to search thru one thread to find an idea, hence the multiple threads. A mod can tell me off if we're spamming. :D

We don't want to start a nonprofit organization because that takes TWO YEARS1!11

Money-making ideas (please add to the list):

1. cafepress.com if you have stuff to sell
2. Sell stuff on e-bay if you have an account.
3. Username88 mentioned he'd dip into his savings.
4. I'll save some of my funny money.
5. I'll ask my shrink for ideas.

6. Build a micro-scale tar extraction plant(refigerator size).

OMG, that's an excellent idea! Clothes and mugs and stuff too, but where do we get the stuff to make all that?

Hand made stuff, like jewelry, pottery, and dolls.

That's number 8! Thanks, Hartzofspace! There's lots of stuff for making jewelry and little dolls at the $ store here! Dunno about pottery!

Consider using sites other than eBay to sell stuff because eBay can cost a fortune in fees with no profits if you aren't a very experienced online seller already. My favorite alternative sites to use are Wagglepop.com and eCrater.com.

Wagglepop gives you a webstore with an unlimited number of listings for $9.95/month. ECrater is 100% free, but the search engine exposure isn't as good as Wagglepop, so I use both.

Great! I used to make cloth dolls. One that I gave a friend as a gift for her collection was dressed like a little gypsy doll, with a red calico skirt trimmed with golden rick rack, a shawl, and earrings. I also made a clown with orange hair. They were really cute.

The problem with various handmade crafts and such is the
reality that the same thing is being made in China with 25
cent per hour labour with access to lowest cost raw materials and some degree of machine assistance you may not have.

When you have an hour and $5 worth of material in a product. You maybe competing in a market where your competition is getting the
same product on Walmart shelves $1 cost retailing for $2.

My idea about tar recovery from the tar sands is not a joke. A small operation that fell below the radar of government regulators that powered its extractor with tar could make tar profitably. Basically you heat the sands rich in the gooey tar and the tar becomes more fluid. A small moonshine scale operation could produce perhaps 1-4 barrels a day. If $60-$80 per barrel is possible thats not bad money. Hardest part will be when it cools it become thick tar again that would be hard to deal with. The price of asphalt is very high if the tar could be mixed with some asphalt it would solve the problem of saling as many small companies buy asphalt.

Wow, so could we do that on land in Prince Edward Island, where the land is dirt cheap? That's where I'm thinking we'll have our commune... I hope PEI isn't going to be underwater in a few years like some people say.

Hmmm. I wonder if it would work to have a commune on a house boat. That might be a really stupid idea. I'm just putting it out there anyway.
