Feeling like you don't "fit in" is an Asperger's/autistic thing, i.e., I'm assuming that most people here with an ASD feel like they're different and cannot fit in no matter where they go.
Saying that, not many people are accepting and/or understanding of others, it's a human thing (the disorder doesn't completely define the human after all).
Anyway, hello GizmoGirl,
I'm autistic, "HFA" because I have a normal/above IQ, in reality I'm LFA concerning my objective achievements and milestones, and I probably always will be concerning such (I'm being realistic here). I rock/flap nonstop when overwhelmed (which is quite often out there amongst people), I never even knew I did it till it was pointed out recently; the thing is, people with Asperger's can rock/flap just as much as "us" when they're overwhelmed. "We" had a "genuine" delay in verbal ability, both written and spoken (speech therapy and gentle education can help us immensely), and others like us have a delay in intelligence too.
Autism and Asperger's are very similar in reality, in reality they're probably the same disorder, the labels just place us along different parts of the line of severity.

and the brain is so complex... we don't know what's goin on! even looking at how many different ways a non-neural gene can be expressed (and used in completely different ways)
i do think no one here probably really feels like they fit in very much... and as for anybody, finding friends is a matter of luck and just finding people you dont have to work to interact with
