I am wondering about the diagnostic process. Who can diagnose, clinical psychologist, psychiatrist?
Ive heard its expensive.

I am considering getting a diagnosis in a few months, I just cant cope with working and I think job burnout is on its way within the next year..

I basically need a break. Im worried about whether I would qualify for a diagnosis. What if they just conclude I am weird, and not in fact aspie at all.

its all so hard. anyway advice welcome...

A GP can make the diagnosis, but most won't consider themselves qualified to do so.

I got a referral from my family Dr to someone at the local hospital so its free here in Canada, but its taking a long time.

Going to a specialist can be expensive, but the waiting lists are usually shorter.

Our pediatrician suggested seeing a psychologist for a diagnosis. He gave us some Dr's and we researched them. Unfortunately, there are
a shortage of Dr's here and most weren't practicing here anymore or
weren't taking new patients. We were able to find one that had really
great references but he did not take insurance. We paid close to $1,000 for a diagnosis. This included 2 Dr's visits for testing and then a meeting for the diagnosis results.

Thank god I'm already diagnosed. My parents already did the work when I was a kid. I wonder how much it cost them and if their insurance covered any of it.

I was always suspected as having it since alot of my behavior is rather textbook. Still I had to see multiple people to get diagnosed. My mother paid for it, and frankly I'd rather not ask how much since I would feel horrible if it cost her alot. So i dont know cost. But it will take awhile, and should probably see other people for it. Make sure you get someone that knows what they are doing. AS is easy to misdaignos and a study has shown there ar a lot of things an aspie would also test positive for

Thanks all of you.. yes the cost will be a consideration.. apparently it costs about $1000 to get a diagnosis in my home country too. I wonder why it costs so much? Seems a bit ridiculous to me.

Im also a bit concerned because im sure i have it, but mildly, and Im not really textbook.. mind you I went into an AS centre a few months ago there and one of the counsellors there thought I had it.. and he worked with people with AS every day...

anyway thx (((((((((((((all))))))))))))))) for the info...
