I honestly think recent traumatic experiences and things have made my already pretty unstable mind even more unstable... I think I might well be bipolar (bipolar 2 or cyclothymia, not bipolar 1). How does one go about checking for a diagnosis of such a thing? They say it's very common for aspies to become bipolar...

What must I do to have this checked? Don't get me wrong but, typically being aspie, I've grown a fondness of it and I actually really want to find out that I have it rather than not.

Why on earth would you want to find you have it rather than not?
It is a disorder that untreated can wreck many aspects of your life.
Usually, bipolar is spotted pretty well unless you have the kind that only involves hypomania which are brief spells where you feel euphoric or very angry and irritable.

As to how you get it checked you see a shrink after getting your doctor to refer you, but I would be very serious about it first as all of the medications for it have unpleasant side effects and some even carry the risk of neurological damage over a period of time.

You know if you have mood swings, don't always think bi-polar, apart of autism is mood swings also. I was misdiagnosed bi-polar, when your bi-polar when your a child, your mood swings happen every other hour or so, and when you become an adult your mood swings will last either a couple days or weeks. I had mood swings every couple minutes, and now i have them every couple of hours, my doctor told me that my mood swings happen to fast to be diagnosed bi-polar, and autism fits me the t, because of my mood swings. I didn't know that even having mood swings is apart of the autism criteria, but it is, if your having mood swings like i said every couple of minutes or hours or so, then its not bi-polar but if your having them for days on end, then i would defintely go get yourself checked for bi-polar.

1. Are you taking an drugs (prescription) that you haven't had before?
2. Are you taking drugs that might have worked for awhile, but are known to cause mood swings (there are a lot of those).
3. See a psychiatrist. That's what they get paid to figure out.

Good luck.
