On New Year's Eve in Norway, everyone at my age is at nightclubs and parties getting morbidly drunk, everyone except me.
I don't have many friends, and I don't know where the parties are. For the NTs I look perfectly normal (at least until they've had a long conversation with me), so many people expects me to get morbidly drunk as well (at least it seems that way, since a lot of them ask if I was out drinking in the weekends, what I did New Year's Eve, and so on).

I hate going to nightclubs with hundreds of people I don't know. The only times I like parties, is when there's not that many people, and I know a lot of them.

Does anyone else feel that way about New Year's Eve?

I HATE new years eve. It is just WAY TOO MUCH sensory input. I stay at home, don't go out, and do my usual thing more loudly so the firecrackers and firearms going off don't disturb me as much.

I do boring things and can enjoy the evening that way - ie: at home with a book or tv etc..

It gets easier as you get older because you're less "expected" to go out raging.

I dont really understand celebrating the New year's. Why do we do it? It's one of the more pointless holidays and ecuses to get drunk ever. The again, I am usually at home doing nothing, avoiding all the parties they show on tv. Thats another thing- why in the hell would we want to watch people "having fun" and partying? Gah.

Last year I turned New Years into my anniversary. Problem solved. Now I have an excuse.

"I'm sorry, I can't come get drunk with you, its mine and my boyfriends anniversary. You have fun though"

Have fun nursing your hangover that is.

I hate New Years, too. Last year, my next door neighbor used it for an excuse to play ear shattering music until 2:30 a.m. Finally I had a meltdown, and started pounding on the wall. After that, I contacted the landlord and told him I wouldn't be renewing my lease, if I had to endure any more nonsense. So that guy had to move out.

It's a giant disappointment. A new year changes. That's about all there is to be said for it. The new year can herald the beginning of happier times for some I suppose.

I just hate all holidays. How's that?

Ok, New Years is particularly lame, it's just a transition to more of the usual, hence another pointless marker in life.

And everyone getting drunk, which I don't even drink (yet).

What a useless "holiday".

I personally enjoy new years. I love the fact that the calender rolls over, and the thought that hopefully this year will be better then the last.

I will go out to a small party for the night, or I will have 1 here, nothing big, I will drink fine beer and liqure and probably end up going to work the next day.

It is a time where I like to reflect on the past year and make plans for the future year. I use this time to gadge where I am, where I may be going and what I need to do to get their.

Yes,but for different reasons-am hate NYE because of fireworks starting up again, and never knowing when they are going to go off.
Some idiots have already started doing that, and they have been doing it at times when everyone on the street seems to be in bed-am wear earplugs and eardefenders over the top in house around fireworks seasons' but it doesn't help enough to stop MD after MD.
Can't think about sleeping when it gets closer to NYE,as all that brain can obsess about is when the next firework is going to go off-am end up exhausting self to sleep.
The opiates will be coming out again.

I am often quite optimistic about the New Year and I actually do go out and enjoy good music at a pub (if it was like the last one) and then go and then take a short walk to watch the fireworks in action.

The best part is that I am with relatives and I do try to fit in when it comes social situations (even though I easily bore people to bits).

I do this on my birthday, which falls in January. :thumright:

Understandable... At my work, when it's someone's birthday, all 25 staff gather round and sing to them. Very frustrating if eye contact is difficult.

I would hate that. Too bad you can't keep birthdays a secret at the workplace.

I don't hate new year's eve, but anyway, to me it's another reminder that everyone else is out having fun with their friends, and I'm stuck at home alone.
That aside, I can't wait until this year is officially over, even if it means spending NYE at home, or at some boring middle-aged party.
