8O We are being forced to move out of Super Happy Fun Land because the building has been sold off for condominiums. We are moving into a new gigantic warehouse...that thousands of dollars of rennovations have already gone into, and it is nowhere near complete. Flakey is worried about going broke....We have um....3 show left on the 6th, 7th, and the 10 and will be closed from the 11th till the 23rd for the move. It has been my job to stay home during the day and pack. I am supposed to get people to help. There have been a few people who have vollunteered (even one from WP :) (thanks))....But I am nervous about working with some people...and I am SOOOOOOOO disorganised and am moving soooooo slowly....it is not funny....we have SOOOOOOOO much stuff..it is rediculous...I have a really hard time figuring out what to throw away....I am instructed not to get rid of any books but we have thousands of books.....have wasted tons of time just going in circles....doing things I am not supposed to be doing yada yada yada......I am not good at this...I cannot focus on it when I am alone.....it just isn;t working......but i have a hard time delegating instructions to people who have vollunteered and there are some people who I cannot work with at all.

For one thing I need to log out of WP and not come back until I am done....have Flakey put a lock on my computer access...because it is a constant distraction/lure/additcion.....

I have really bad ADD.....my ability to focus on completing one activity is practicly Nil...does not exist....Have no idea where to start...etc....

It has been my thought that it would be nice if our rooms were ready for us to move into..and that the act of actually moving things in would motavate me to organize....but that won't be for some time. I have run out of boxes and garbage bags....can only concentrate of the gigantic heap of reandom crap for a few measly minutes at a time.....Have a huge sink of dirty dishes and no hot water to wash them with...let alone take a hot shower.....

am completely overwhealmed and seem only good at going in non-effective circles or sitting still.

what do I do?
Aside from constantly fantisise about being on ADD meds again...which isn't gonna happen.....

I have moved countless times in the past 10 years and I still get that paralyzed feeling. It's gotten easier with each move because I've established a sort of routine (and there's some stuff I never unpack!). There have been times when I didn't start until 24 hours before I had to move out. Those 24 hours were like a marathon, but I work best under pressure, so it was all right. Moving can be accomplished in short amounts of time! Don't give up hope! And good luck!

oh! I have done this before! Here is a few things to know about before SUPER HAPPY FUN LAND takes it on the road!

Number 1 is never feed everyone until AFTER the job is done and have a big pizza party or something so everyone can destress and de compress with each other and leave them with the idea this is something they wish they could do every day (NOT!)

the trick is to have a job for everyone, and be aware of how many people need to do what jobs. Always have clip board that lists of what needs to be packed/ placed/ and where so when someone starts looking around helplessly or those who pester you "what can I do, what can I do?" you have exactly some project that you can guide them to. (They will think you are a genius and . . you ARE!)

You don't even have to carry the clipboard around, because the CLIPBOARD is the boss, you see, and put a big bright bow or swatch of color on it so it can be easily found. . and anyone can see what hasn't been checked off yet and go do it if they can remember to check it off, then it won't take extra time when someone goes off to find out it has been done or someone else had it under control.

Even a soda pop break can become cause of a big slow down or even breakdown in communication, so pass out the drinks while they are on their individual jobs. Caffeinated drinks can be used for an extra lift now and then.

Pick an early start time and utilize all your people immediately as they come onto the job site. Don't wait to 'get them all together' first or wait on anyone that isn't there. Strike while the enthusiasm is hot.

Always remember to encourage and praise volunteers because you can't make them do anything they really don't want to do and they can always think of something they 'forgot' they had to do today. That usually ONLY happens if they are bored, so keep it moving along in
SUPER HAPPY FUN LAND

And good luck!

Merle

Oh...if only.....clipboard..is good idea.....
Yesterday i had 3 helpers.....my friend with the constant mood swings who yells all the time....(he did not relax till much later in the evening)
the older (AS-ish) lady who recently got under my skin so badly that I could not talk to her for a few days ( things are ok between us now)....Flakey explained to her about my issues of needing space....And my friend from WP...who gallantly went around to the grocery stores to get more boxes, which were desperately needed.....
I was so frazzled....went around in circles...my friend's yelling wore me down...sometimes I am able to let it roll off my back...
Most time was spent putting books and knick knacks in boxes.
Today I wanna see how much i can accomplish alone before the helpers arrive later on.

I will make a list....i am very good at making lists...just kinda bad at filtering what goes on the lists...

It's good to see you still on these boards ! !

As for moving, I simply can't let go of any of my books. I once sold one for a thou, and immediately regretted it(! !!) The Missus sometimes suggests I check Ebay, and sell a couple. I can't bring myself to do it. So I sympathasize ! ! Just get lots of boxes, and some friends, and keep at it.

Make sure you pack a small suitcase with things you will immediately need, when you get there, like medications, toiletries, snacks, toilet paper, linen for the bed, towels, and the telephone. Make up the bed first, so that you can collapse in it later. 8)

Hartz, as usual you have the inside track! This suggestion is the most important of all!

Thanks, Merle. After many, many moves, I learned this the hard way. And a dear friend told me to always have a special box labeled "phone," so I could order pizza.
