Are they really necessary?

I feel like I bought into the culture that says you can never be happy without close human relationships. But trying to cultivate them has done me far more harm than good and I was perfectly fine without them. Just unlucky or maybe certain people are better off not bothering?

Close human relationships can definitely be a help.
Even when they damage you, you can almost always make some good out of your attempts (ex. learn from your mistakes).

You are born alone and you die alone...but, in order to survive the harshness of the world, we all need a little help from friends.

A few close relationships throughout your life are a good thing to have.

It might not be a cultural thing but a natural part of being human. I feel the same way. It's like a trap you can't get out of.
