Hi,

I propose we start a thread on offering places for refuge for people with abusive or non-understanding parents to escape to. It might help with the pressure many of us feel when things get rough.

Allow me to start.

I have a 2 bedroom apartment with a spare bedroom in Bathurst, NSW Australia. It currently doesn't have a bed but I do have a sleeping bag you can borrow. I have pay TV and wireless broadband. If you don't have a computer and I have a spare you can borrow one for awhile (all of my computers bar my laptop are in there anyway).

My only request is that you try to find a job (I'll help you if I can) to help with rent and bills and that you pull your weight - helping with housework, cooking, etc.

Sounds like a perverted fantasy to me. I have a family that is all messed up, and I would genuninely love to leave and live on my own for a while. I have been having meltdowns over the last few weeks and it would be nice to accept this offer, it would be a ticket out of despair for me. However, I would need to get a passport and I cannot afford a plane ticket to do this. I live in Montana

Yeah, that's the hardest part, getting away. If I could help with that I would be glad to.

Anyway, I now have a bed in the spare room.

I don't mean to sound like a jackass, but you offering random strangers online a place to sleep in your apartment is totally creepy.

That's a totally reasonable reaction. I'm just saying I got out of my home situation and I want to help others escape theirs. Besides, it's not random, they'd have to organise it first, it's not like they're going to turn up on my doorstep asking for a place to stay.

That's no more creepy than the apartment rent websites that have a place to ask for roommates...

With that said, I've been thinking about how wonderful it would be if somewhere in the US there was a place (or anywhere else for that matter) that would just be full of AS people and we could just be in peace...It seems there is no place like that...It would be great to have a whole town that everyone could just leave us alone...

I agree with the poster who said that it is no more creepy than the ads on gumtree, the newspaper etc I think it is a nice offer Aaron is making. I have lived with stangers before as roomates and for the most part it is ok there are issues but that goes for any living arrangement.

I have a problem living with strangers, mainly because I like to wear their underwear.

Right after they wear it. ;)

I would wonder what was in it for him. And that goes double if I was a woman.

Another perfectly reasonable response. All that's in it for me is helping someone with the same issues as me (or worse) to find their feet in what can be a confusing world. However there may be some unkind folk who would seek to take advantage of these people for whatever reason...
