One of our cats had just extreme low blood sugar and my mother rushed to the vet. I've been sleeping, oh boy. My mother was frantic and I hope she didn't cause a

That was about one hour ago. She's yet to come back home.

I'm totally calm. Well, I'm always calm in emeregencies. I sincerely hope the cat will be fine! I hope she'll live. But I myself am not... sad? As usual, I'm just never emotional.

My mother is going to cry her eyes out anyway. She's totally emotional. If my mother were to come home now I sure couldn't comfort her if something really bad happened. That's more worrying!

I'll go to lunch now. Just... maybe someone could comment on this.

So. A bit of an update.

The cat's home. And my mother too. And both came home in one piece.

We're to watch the cat now and test her blood sugar levels every other hour.

She seems stable, but I'll vote for waiting this out. At least for two or three days.

Hate diabetes.

My awesome grandfather had it, next to many many other conditions that came with age and eventually died.

Hate diabetes. Hate. Hate.

Sorry to hear that about your Kitty, it sounds like Insulinoma which is a tumor on the beta cells in the pancreas that causes the excess production of insulin, causing a dangerously low blood glucose level. I had a pet ferret, that had it, and she didn't come
out of it, so you have to keep a close watch on your cat, if it stops moving and is drooling, you have to give it some a small
amount of honey or karo syrup on their gums and inner lips with a Q-tip. Then take it back to the vet.

Sorry to hear about your pet ferret.

Well, that one of our cats actually has way too high blood sugar.

It was 600+ before she was declared as diabetic and adjusted to Canine Insulin. We has to change vets until to find it out, really nasty story.

It went okay for a couple of months, but this morning she just turned up with a blood sugar level of... 23 or 27.

Yup, was all lying there, wide eyes, cramping.

I have read up what to do when the cat's all like that already. It said exactly the same as you, honey (I'll probably leave trying that out) or syrup/sugar water (didn't help this morning, the blood sugar level was apparently too low).

I advised my mother to buy some special glucose syrup (for diabetics) from the apothecary. It sounded like a good idea to have this available and ready at home. Way safer than having to make sugar water in a moment in which time's the most precious.

Well, can't say she suffers from too high sugar right now...

I'm sorry to hear about that. I hope that your cat's doing better, soon.

I hope your kitty is feeling better.

Were you able to find out from the vet what caused the diabetes?

Thank you folks. Thanks for the cute picture too!

All what we currently do is watch the kitty. And get her to eat, which she doesn't really want to. She takes cat treats from us and she drinks water, but she barely eats anything.

Her blood sugar is stable currently - but high. We're not supposed to give her any high doses of Insulin. (In case the blood sugar level drops again.)

I think she's still in shock and needs to recover from that near-death experience. The vet said: watch her, get her to eat, watch her blood sugar level.

What is the cause of her diabetes - the too high blood sugar level - I'm not sure. That bit is chronic, unfortunately. She an Abyssinian and was used for breeding purpose and getting prices by her former owner. These cats always seem to be at a high risk for getting some kind of disease.

What caused her blood sugar level to drop - that's what we're currently wary about.
