My behaviour is becoming too erratic and frightening.

My parents can't stand it anymore.

My mother got a kitchen knife from a drawer and said she would kill me if I bothered her again.

She thinks it would be the kindest thing to do.

I'm upset because I'm neglecting my snakes and now I don't have any pinkie mice for Luna. The shop that sold them opened at 11. By that time this morning, I had been awake for over 30 hours. I was so tired and sick I asked my mother and father if one of them would get them for me. They said they would.

But my mother was working and my father is a slobbish procrastinator who seems to use any excuse to get out of completing the most rudimentary task. My mother asked him to but he didn't.

Now we have no mice.

I got very upset.

Luna is due to be fed around now and the reptile shop won't be open until Monday (it is nearly midnight, Saturday, here.)

I haven't been able to handle the snakes for over a week as I just don't have the energy and I don't trust myself not to hurt them.

I'm sure they are too cold in my room.

They are the first animals that I have felt such love for in a long time and I don't want to lose them.

You are 20 years old...have you considered living on your own, prehaps in some kind of supportive housing if it is available in your community?

I have considered it. I think we had plans to do something like that at some time... but, at the moment, I find the idea of being away from home terrifying. I don't hate my parents and, in spite of the mistakes they make, I think they love me and they are probably the only people in the world who could have lived with me for this long without killing me. But I know things are getting worse; they can't cope with me. And I know they want me to leave. I just don't know how I'd find the courage to make the transition.

I suggest you start dealing with your snakes yourself...they are your responsibility afterall.
My ex has AS. He kept snakes. He got into a depression and began neglecting them. Some died and the RSPCA got involved along with the police. He had to go to court on charges of animal cruelty and ended up with an 8 year ban. That caused a lot of distress. I suggest you give the snakes to someone else if you are not able to look after them right now as they need very specific conditions.

I'm the only person who looks after them. I'm angry with myself for not buying the mice. I'm just upset that on one of the few occasions where I have needed help in looking after them, nobody was willing to help.

Believe me, I'm trying. I appreciate the warning, though. And I know you are absolutely right... I'm going to check the temperatures again, see if I can do anything for them.

Good. I keep a tarantula but am looking into getting some reptiles, as in chamelion and gecko, eventually, water dragons.

I had a leopard gecko once. I prefer the snakes as they are easier to feed. I find live insects are a bit of a pain to deal with.

If you Really love them, you would let them go. Give them away or to a pet shop where other ppl will care for them. From what you're saying, they don't sound easy to care for. Get a pet that doesn't require so much feeding.

If you can, try to see if the snakes are warm enough. Then, get some sleep. If you're dealing with a lot of stress, the last thing you need is sleep deprivation on top of everything else. If you can't get any mice until Monday, don't worry about that until Monday.

I checked on Luna and her eyes have turned "blue" (clouded and milky). It seems she is preparing to shed her skin. This means she would probably refuse food even if I had any to offer her, so I suppose my lack of pinkies makes no difference in this instance.

The temperature was a few degrees too low in the tanks, so I turned on my radiator. Seems okay now. Neither of them has regurgitated their last meal, so I think I got away with it.

ditto.

I also think you need to consider that if these are truly your snakes, then it isn't your dad's responsibility to make sure they are fed. calling him a slobbish procrastinator because he won't go find mice to feed *your* snakes is sort of... pointless.

I understand what you are saying; but a promise of a favor should be kept, out of courtesy. And you don't know my father.

Anyway, all is well now. I am feeling far more stable, and focusing intently on being a good snakey-mother. :D

And I apologise for the sensationalistic thread title. :? I was in a weird mood.
