8) I posted this in Greentea's thread, and then I realized that it needs a wider audience.

Dracula wrote:
I'm going to tell you a secret. Cruelty, malice, evil, insensitivity, are caused by low self-esteem in the person inflicting the pain.

If you look at the most terrible people throughout history, study the details of their personality, the stages of their lives, their actions.... you'll always be able to conclude that they weren't pleased with themselves AT ALL, so they projected the self-disgust. The stronger the hate of who they are, the more twisted.

Evil is childishness. Immaturity in its essence. Where there is compassion, there is wisdom and maturity.

With that knowledge... move forward.

Well put, I agree completely.

i am not so confortable with the term 'self-esteem', because I do not feel it properly expresses the problem. It is not so much that people have a bad/poor perception of themselves, but that they have not come to terms with themself, or defined their place in the world.

Yes, that is true. They inflict pain on others to dull their own, but they can't fully get rid of it that way so they continue to bully others.
