Does anyone else here have a poor body image where they have gotten very unhappy about a specific part of their body?

I cannot stop focussing on the size of my butt, and am repulsed by the sight of the thing... I doubt anyone else bothers to look at themselves naked in the mirror, but are butts meant to be so urgh? The skin is not totally smoothe there and it really bothers me.

At times I have clawed at it and wanted to cut it up because the sight of flesh disgusts me.

I had a pot belly that used to bother me that way. It's for the most part gone but my love handles are still there and it really annoys me. They have shrunk too, but they refuse to go away completely. When I take my shirt off and look at the mirror, my body looks good from the side, but when I face the mirror, there they are.

Somehow, I'm just going to have to find more time to exercise.

Where to start? My skin tags, my balding head, my finger/toe nails that point up, the 100 pounds wrapped around my mid-section, my man boobs, my stretchmarks all over the place, my large nose...

The skin tags are the most annoying.

Wow, men also have these problems. Well, I wish I was taller and smaller around the waist, I do crunches but it doesn't do much, I think it's also the way I'm shaped.

to the OP

the only people who have really pretty butts are people who have plastic surgury or people who do running and biking on a regular basis and eat well. (or just lucky sh**s)

most people, if they actually looked at their butt, wouldn't like it. it is just that most people don't look at their butts.

I agree with Kit000003,
I think the media is full of bodies that look great but you know they've had somethng done. Not that I'm trying put them down but they mostly look that good b/c they've had plastic surgery and other expensive procedures.

The media has brain washed everyone into believing that people are not attractive unless they have model bodies, thus making people with realistic bodies feel inferior.

I cycle for 30 mins a day and walk but it does not change what I see.
But then, I must admit, I am expecting perfection, much like I do in other aspects of my life.
Having wide hips does not help the view.

I keep thinking...what is it like to just not give a damn about your shape and to just be living for life itself, and for what is inside the body ?

I have been at that point before, but not very often as an adult.

I have honed in on this idea that anything over a USA 6 or a uk 10 is overweight and large.

I suppose it could be worse, I could aspire to be a size 0 like those walking bones they call models.

I used to not care about my body, I started working out to boost my confidence. At one point however, I really started caring to the extent that I became afraid to eat. Of course, I only exercise a couple times a week. If I exercise more, I'll probably get rid of my love handles.

I can't stand my tummy (which is flabby) and my thighs (which are flabby and creepy looking)
I love the rest of my body, but I obsess about those two body parts.

I workout for an hour day, five days a week, both cardio and weights, for four years straight and keep my self on a fairly calorie restrictive diet. I have a good chest, good arms, good legs, and a good butt, but no matter what I do my gut will not completely go away. It would be cool to have six-pack abs but it will never happen, I just don't have the genes for it. MY advice is work with what you have and realize that our bodies will never be perfect. Have you ever seen one of those tabloid articles where they show what celebrities actually look like without camera tricks, make-up and CGI--usually like average people. People with high-def TVs know what I mean.

BTW girls, J-Lo has a very large butt and lots of guys love it!

You're right Complex. My love handles may never go away completely, but I'm happy with everything else. The rest of my body more than makes up for my love handles. 8)

Complex...could certain kinds of exercise I do be making me larger, do you know?

I know some can build muscle etc, and it has been a concern.

I do do exercises aimed at firming up the butt muscles, but I am, beginning to think they might actually enlarge the damn thing...and as to the cycling, would that make my thighs bigger?

I wish I knew what the best exercise is for shrinking down without gaining lots of muscle.

Today, I went into a Uk clothing store, aimed more at young people(I am 32) to try on 6 pairs of different things in a uk 10, aka USA 6. 5 of them fit... one was even too large on me. But one pair of denim shorts barely went over my hips and would not do up. That disgusts me and is fixed in my mind.

My BMI is 18.9, my body fat is under 20 and I am, supposedly, bordering on underweight, yet there is something that is not even the smallest size, that I cannot get into ?

I hate my body.

Woman in the mirror topic

Graelwyn, this is Sartresue again.

If your BMI is at that level you need not not worry. Do not try to look like Twiggy (A UK model from the sixties) who was anorexic and is now much heavier than she was as a model teen. She is apparently happy with her body image now.

Our bodies change as we get older. I am 53, and my proportions have changed. In addition to dyspraxia, I now have arthritis which can make joint movements painful. But I am going to ride my bike to keep me lithe. This is a good exercise for you, too.

You may be large boned, in which case nothing can be done to make you thin. This body frame needs more flesh because it needs to be covered. Please consult a professional if you are concerned about weight gain/loss. Irreparable damage can be the result if extreme diets are followed.

You are still young (32). Please accept your body, and your body will be accepting to you. Thank you.

I have been overweight since I was a child. I am the daughter of a large/big-boned man and a small framed woman. My mom always seemed to have serious negative body images...she has gone through anorexic phases when she was younger and has always obsessed over her weight. Right now I outweigh her by about 40lbs.

i have a larger frame than she does. I have a large frame. When I was in elementary school, I could not fit into her wedding gown.
I have been teased about my weight...and picked on by family members...and boyfriends...and so on...
There are many things I could hate about my body, but I choose not to. I am happy if I weigh in the 150's and I am 5'1"-ish.
I ride my bike all the time...I walk alot...I jump on the trampoline....I use a pilates ball...I try to eat decently...but I am too busy being obsessed over other things to be fixated on my physical flaws...granted I do think about them, I am just not fixated.

People come in all shapes and sizes. I have a large ribcage..broad shoulders....thick waist...no hips...skinny legs....Flakey calls me a gnome.
I like having extra padding ..it protects my bones from injury...
