I've decided to set up a thread where people can post happy/pleasant experiences to cheer up themselves and others, so here it is.

Shall I start? I think so.

Most of my happy experiences deal with nature and animals.

#1
While walking in my local bushland reserve, I stumbled accross a baby kookaburra on the track. He did not seem able to fly, and was "gargling" rather than "cackling". I couldn't find a ranger, and didn't have any gloves to move him off the track, but when I came back 15 minutes later he was still there and some adult birds were cackling overhead. He didn't look like he was in the mood to be moved so I reluctantly left him there, hoping the adults would protect him and the goannas wouldn't find him.

I week later I was walking down the same track with my husband explaining this story and hoping the little fellow made it, when I heard a familiar gargle overhead. I stepped out of the glare and looked up and here was the little fellow grinning and gargling to his hearts content, as if to say " Hey! I remember you! Thanks"

#2
Same reserve, different track. Heard a rustle, looked to the side, and there's an echidna! He rolled into a ball until I started talking to him then he stuck his head out, had a sniff, and wombled up the hill.

Next!

Great idea opal :)

I live in the country and there are lots of deer that come
around. A few months ago I saw a live buck for the first time
in my life. I had seen plenty of does but never a buck with
antlers. I came home really late one night and there were
several of them grazing in my yard. They didn't even run away
as they often do, they simply gave me a wide berth as I walked
toward my house from the garage. It was like they were expecting
me and were not afraid. It's like they know I am not out to hunt them.
Just a couple of nights ago, I saw a little white tailed fawn frolicking
around my little pond. Cute little thing :D

Once there was a hummingbird trapped in a shed where I lived
many years ago. I still remember it because it left such an impression
on me. I had an opportunity to observe it for quite a while because it
would not leave the shed for some reason, even though I left both the
door and the window open. I am not sure what was wrong with it, but
I remember just staring at it from a short distance for what seemed like
hours. Its little iradescent body would change several different colors
in the sunlight. It made such a lovely sound with its wings, even though
it kind of made me nervous because it moved so fast. The look in its eye
seemed to let me know that it was not afraid of me and that made me
very happy.

One more. This is my favorite one. I lived in the same place I did with
the shed where the hummingbird came to visit me, in a redwood forest.
One day I heard a roaring sound in the distance. I heard it often in the
daytime hours, and I was drawn to track where the sound was coming
from. I finally stumbled upon a house in the woods about a half a mile or
so away with these two guys and a big mountain lion (cougar, puma). I told
them I was curious about the roar, and they told me that he his name
was Poisiden, and he was their pet. They adopted him from a wildlife
rescue place. Seems he had lived his life in a zoo, as an orphan. He
only had one eye, which he lost because of an infection. He had been
de-clawed as well. I was scared at first, but they told me he was a
"pussycat" LOL. Biggest one I had ever seen! His purring was so deep
and loud, and he was very loving and playful. He grabbed my leg with his
paw and tugged hard at my leg, and I almost had a heart attack, but his
caregivers said he just wanted to play. My heart was in my throat because
that cat could have easily taken me to the ground in a matter of seconds.
I got over nervousness a bit, and I petted him and let him wrestle me to
the ground once and then I finally went home. He really was a big giant
pussycat. That was one of the most coolest days of my life and I will never
forget it either.

Thanks again opal, my day is much brighter thinking on these great memories.

attending the local anime convention was fun. checking out the costumes, watching the anime, talking to peoples about anime manga and games. and of course buying lots of stuff in the traders hall.
and wearing my first costume and having people take pictures of me!

cool fun, a great way to indulge your interests.

Great Thread! I was heading home from the store. While approaching the bus shelter, I noticed that there was a mother and her baby already waiting there. As I came into the shelter, I looked at the baby first. (If there are people around, and they are accompanied by either little children or animals, I always notice the child or animal, first.) The baby gave me such a heartwarming smile, that I glowed inside. I smiled back, and then nodded a greeting to the mother. The mother said that the baby hardly smiled at people. And then she said that this proved that I was a "kind soul." That was such a nice thing to say. :star:

Yeah babies randomly smile at me too, and I'm not a particularly "baby" person.
That's cool

I've made it through the first 11 days of January, without getting psychotic. Just only ten more days, to go! :afro:

When I started mine I didn't realize there was already a thread for this!

I was surprised when I got 80% in history in grade 8, and on top of that, my teacher said I could do better.

My mother got me a book for girls telling us to just be ourselves and why not to do drugs, the side effects of drugs and that, and don't have sex when you don't want to or because it's cool, and why. It was fun to read, and it was a nice happy book.

I stalled for time eating a bedtime snack and drinking milk when sleeping over at my grandparents' place and my dad told me to stop stalling and thought it was funny.

I had a party at McDonald's where I had pizza and my friends were there: my cousin Sarah B, my neighbor's granddaughter Sara, my friends from school Melissa L-C, Thomas K, and Franklin F, and there were others.

I remember when we had Franklin and Melissa over. It was the first time I had friends from school over and it was so fun.

I remember during my 11th birthday when I had my cousins Julie, Joey and Natalie, and my friends Melissa, Jennifer, Sara and my cousin Sara over. We played music from my Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls CDs.

I remember when Julie, Joey, and Natalie were over along with their friends Sean and Amy. It was so fun having 5 kids over at our little apartment.

It was fun having Julie, Joey and Natalie over along with other relatives, and they had the Whooping cough and I hoped I would catch it so that I could stay home from school. We ate a lot of junk food and drank a lot of soda; the strawberry soda was good.

I have really nice neighbors, so last night, when I felt like baking some muffins, I took some over for them. It was hard to do, because I felt a little awkward just going up to their door. But it felt nice to just leave my comfort zone and do something for somebody else.

I love the stories in this thread.
I used to have a little wallaby for a pet. He was so much fun. The dog and he loved to race around the house together. He kept jumping on the desk, scattering all the paper and office supplies, and the bed and the sofa where the dog couldn't go. Sometimes I would find him leaning against my autism plus daughter on the sofa watching cartoons with her.

Here I'll paste in what I posted in the ex-dino cafe in response to the question about what I did in Rwanda:
Oh, man, I had so much fun in Rwanda. I went with www.comeandseeafrica.org where you can see some pictures of what I did. I gave several kinds of mushroom kits to David Nahayo at Butare Christian Mission and lots of seeds. The abiu tree seeds I had sent him a few months earlier were six inches tall and so healthy looking! Marie Jeanne, who is getting a PhD in medicinal plants took several of my seeds too and showed me the demonstration garden and the University of Rwanda. I donated some books to her department (such as Mycelium Running and Edible Forest Garden and Work of Nature etc) and the grateful professors asked me to find information about jatropha and medicinal orchids and aromatic plants, and I got so excited because I love finding out such stuff. Then I got appalled. Why don't they already have that information? Because they don't have many books! and the internet costs over 200 dollars a month and is dial up and often interrupted. Why, why don't universities and organizations give them the books they need? So now I'm trying to rustle up 12,000 dollars to give to Books For Africa and they will ship a forty foot container of donated college books to Rwanda. I want to do it through www.africamissionalliance.com though I have trouble seeing how a forty foot long container is going to make it down that rutted dirt path. I can include the primary school books I've been collecting all year for that school and they will donate some books to other schools and the college books to the university and earn community goodwill.
Anyway, as we were walking through the garden, I bent down to pluck a nasturtium leaf to eat and Marie Jeanne screamed, "No! No!" She knew I was going to eat it because she had watched me eat the weed purslane. I got another leaf and said, Now, you're going to eat this one, and she ran away. I caught her and she ate it and did not die. Then she had an epiphany about how people in her country were starving and they were surrounded by food they did not recognize as food.
I saw the library I donated to one of two primary schools I am supporting there and they told me they were going to implement my idea of a library night for the community once a month and they hired a lady who had been trained in running Bible Clubs to do it. Whoa. After five kids I'm used to being ignored when I proffer ideas. So that was fun. Then David and I planted some moringa trees at the school grounds. David and I went to a number of widows' houses to see if they had correctly planted the moringa and orange trees he had given them earlier.
And I got to eat dinner with the foreign minister of Rwanda after the international student conference. And, and, and.... I had so much fun. I hope more people will come with me next time. Nobody has to do what I did, one can simply sit and smile through the student conference as I did last year and get to know some of the students and local pastors. Knowing them is how I did what I did this year. Oh, and I had some of my little books translated so I hope to publish the tiny tri-lingual primers this year. For some reason, there are no tri-lingual books in the tri-lingual nation of Rwanda. So I have lots to work on this year. Whoo hoo!

I've put myself on an 1850 calorie a day diet. I feel satisfied. I was eating nearly twice as much, before I've put myself on this diet. Today was my third day. I'm also happy, because it's warmed up, and it's going to rain, tonight. Tuesday Night Bingo was canceled last night, because of the snow.

Doing things for other people often makes me happy (as long as I don't have to actually talk to them  ) I do a bit of charity fundraising and stuff.
