Anxious about Science
I don't want to fail
It doesn't even matter if I study, as I FAIL ANYWAYS!
Freaking out
Rocking back and forth
Wanting to self harm
What should I do?

What kind of science? Chemistry? Bio? Physics? General Science? Social Science? Maybe we can help.

As I figure you already know, self harm only leaves scars to see long after you solve the problem that led you to it in the first place - then you have regret. I don't recommend it, and I speak from experience on the matter.

ANYhoo, Statistics was my nemesis. You won't fail if you study. I totally get having struggles with topics that don't particularly interest you (STATISTICS!! ... ahem) but you CAN get through it with a passing grade if you really commit yourself to it. Don't press yourself to the point of meltdown - take a break, cool off, kick the crap out of a cardboard box - whatever. Come back to it with the mindset that you are going to pass this exam/assignment. Make this a personal challenge. Don't focus on the whole, just the parts. THIS assignment. THIS exam. And make sure you allow enough time to study. Join a study group, find a tutor, and keep your cool. Do not give up, or you will be tempted to give up on other things too. DO this. When you are done and it is behind you, you'll not only have a passing grade but also the confidence that you met this challenge and defeated it!

You CAN do this.

Well, I wasn't having meltdowns and studying for weeks before a test and somehow still get 50%!
It's grade 10 physics...I just don't GET IT!

I don't cut - therefore I don't leave scars. Bruises, rashes and little burn marks yes, but not scars.

Ouch, physics. My high school physics teacher wasn't very good and I've had no desire to try it in college. I'm sorry I don't know very much about it... If you could describe they way the classes are conducted, grading procedures, how big a class is it, is the teacher a jerk, is it a lecture, are there labs, do they let you use formula lists on the tests etc. I might have suggestions about study habits but, unless someone else who knows more about it than me posts here I would recommend starting a thread in the science forum. I'm sure there are people there who know physics very well.

My teacher is good, but that only goes so far in the realms of my stupidity.

One of the best things for calming down is to take slow, deep breaths. I know this may sound too simple, but it really works! Ross

PHYSICS!? OUCH!! I would NEVER take physics, even here in the university. I'm currently taking chemistry, and then biology, and finally, geology.

Hi, I've been lurking on these forums for a while, but haven't posted until now.
Based on what I've seen you post, I truly doubt you're stupid. Some subjects are just harder to learn for certain people. I'm currently taking physics (grade 11/12), and may be able to help. What chapter/subject is your test on?

It's the major unit test :(
I'm breathing now thank goodness, but since it's 1:50 am where I live, I don't think studying would be a good choice (I'm only up because my rabbit won't stop banging his cage)

Well, it's not like I'm WANTING to take it. My course has four different subjects in sciences, and we have a month of torture (for me) for each one.

Why don't you stay after school and get help from the teacher?

While I failed miserably in math; I did real good in physics when in high school. Love the stuff.

The only advice I can give you is that physics is all about breaking down a problem into its basic components. The biggest problem people have is reading this seemingly complex word problem and either brain-freeze when trying to 'picture' whats going on in their minds or they start writing down only the pieces that seem relevant to the solution and ignoring the others..and get wrong answers.

But if you take the word problem and sentence by sentence break it down into data chunks, preferably drawing each component for reference.. you will see how every small piece affects the whole and how to solve it :)

What are you seeing right now?

Vectors? Forces? Elasticity? Orbital mechanics?

Bad Vibrations topic

I went back to high school as an adult and did well in all the sciences and maths because of motivation. I did poorly in high school as a teen as there was too much going on. The worst case scenario is that you may have to repeat the course. It is not a failure. You may need more grounding in the subject. Trying something again is a sign of maturity and dedication. :)

Not if I want to go to the university I want to go...they have really high standards...I'm feeling really nausous now, because I couldn't study and now I'm certainly doomed!
