I live on my own i am a 28 year old female with Asperger Syndrome. At the moment we are having a hard rubbish (trash) collection so people have things out on their nature strip and others come around to collect them if they wish (even though it is illegal). On Monday an intellectually disabled man (who told me he lives in a granny flat behind his parents place) came by with a bike and trailer picking things up to seel for scrap, he was admiring my kitten Saphemie and making comments like he is beautiful, he would be worth a lot of money, I alweays wanted a cat but my parents wont let me etc and then came to the door asking if there were any odd jobs I had for him. I admired his enthusiasm and energy getting out there and doing something despite being disabled.

Therefore I offered that he could mow my back lawn for me even though I could easily do it myself. I told my neighbours and they were concerned about him casing the joint I assured them I wont be letting them in the house and watched him when he came today to do them (again making admiring comments about Saphemie). Due to my own Asperger´s which impars by social skills and judgement I am not good at judging character, admit I am trusting that is why I also asked my stepdad if it would be ok he said it would. He only told me his first name Mark, I had locked up all my doors and was about to go out I asked him for his number so I could call him in future if I need him, he told me he couldn´t read or write (I think this is true) and so he would get his mum to write his number and he would drop it in the letter box this seemed ok. I left on my bike leaving Saphemie and him to finish the work. When I arrived home at 6pm Saphemie didn´t come but I didnt think anything of it just thinking he had gone for a walk. However as the hours go by (it is now 11.10pm) and given his comments that seemed inocent but now dont I am beginning to think something has happened. Saphemie is a very friendly, demanding and trusting cat and this is very out of character for him he is only 10 months old too.

He turned up this morning hungry but otherwise fine I have never been so relieved in my life I cried tears of relief. It is possible the guy took Saphemie and his parents told him he had to bring Saphemie back. Otherwise he might just have been adventuring. Either way I am so relieved he is back and he is staying indoors today where he can't get get into trouble :).

er, i hate to sound mean, but based on reading the story, it wouldn't shock me if the guy stole the cat.

i mean, some people will do anything for money, as harsh of a reality it really is.

but hey, you got him back anyway. it's just what the story sounds like, yeah? @@

Our first cat was indoor/outdoor, and a very friendly guy. I always worried about him going to the wrong person -- but he ended up living to be almost 18.
