Worst birthday yet?

Sorry beforehand if this gets whiney or gets too long I just have to let it out.

I've never really had any decent birthdays and am starting to realise they're not that special and this is probably just me finding it out.

I've been at uni for a year now.. It's my birthday tomorrow and I dont think anyone knows or cares. None of my friends from high school talk to me anymore not that that would change anything as I got a total of one present last year although I got all of them presents and made them each a cake which they all loved.

But to add to that i've got emails from home saying my cat's been missing the last week and they cant sort out my rental documents for next year so I might not get a house..

Then ontop of that my long distance relationship partner is going to be working the entire day meaning I will effectivly be spending the entire day on my own.

Anyone have any advice?

As for what to do with yourself on this day - Do something that you will like. You like sushi - treat yourself to sushi. You like films - go see a film. Even if you do this by yourself - you will still be doing something that you enjoy!!

As for your high school friends whom you've grown apart from - this actually is common amongst NT's as well - people go into different directions.

As for your giving people presents and the cake thing - this is very generous on your part. It is unfortunate that these friends did not reciprocate. It might be that the are/were "users". It might be just that they are not as in tune to the importance of birthdays as you are.

I'll share with you a custom that seems popular in Germany (part of my family is German). An adult will often host a birthday party for themselves. They will cater in a meal and have a party celebrating their own birthday - inviting family, friends, associates, etc.

I like this custom. It acknowledges and celebrates your own special day - you get to chose your own guest to enjoy the special day with and you don't have to spend money with presents and cake on a bunch of other people celebrating their special day. Spend the money on your own special day yourself. This "birthday bash" can be small - a couple of friends for coffee and cake or it could be large (a catered dinner for 100). Personally, I don't even know 100 people - so I'm a coffee/cake girl myself.
Anyways, it is just a different way of looking at celebrating a birthday.

Do what i did with my long distance partner, celebrate it early! he never had any good birthdays untill i threw him a surprise party with just him and me. it was the best birthday he ever had . all the rest were terrible.

i hope your significant other can make your day a special one. just do it early. your b day can be celebrated any time. so make it a day when you are both free. then when the actual day of your birth rolls around you can know you already had a nice day.
