Back in September I had to put my dog down and he was just shy of 8. He had so many illnesses it was the most humane thing to do. Then my parents had to put their dog (and he was one time my dog too) down yesterday morning. The only comfort I can take in this whole thing is knowing that unlike my dog, their dog lived up to a ripe old age.. almost 16. And then to cap it off, around midnight last night I started feeling sick and tried fighting it for hours and hours and finally close to 4 am I gave in and vomited. Some of you may be thinking that is no big deal but for an emetophobic like me that is a HUGE deal. I am still feeling sick and I don't think it's a bug I have, because my body is going through weird hormonal changes... that was to blame, along with the grief with the passing of my old dog
One of our dogs was over a year old when we had to put it down. What happened was my dad was going to town and Dale (our dog) was running along side of the truck and then all of a sudden he ran in front of him and then he was running on three legs. The road was gravel so my dad didn't know he ran over him. He picked him up and took him the vet and the vet said he would see what they could do. The next day, he called my dad and told him what was going on and said he could try and save him but he can't guarantee he will live so my dad said to put him to sleep. It wasn't worth using all that money to save him and then he dies so it was cheaper to put him to sleep.
In 2002, we had a puppy and he liked chasing cars. He was only eight months and one day my mom, my uncle and my brother got in the Saab and decided to head to McDonalds and Squeaky (the dog) was running beside him and then my brother felt a thumb on the wheel and he said 'Mom you hit Squeaky," and she said "I did not" and he kept saying she did and she kept insisting she did not. Then she saw Squeaky was on the ground tyring to get up, so they backed up and they tried to find something to put him on but by the time he got back, he was dead. My uncle figured he slipped on some ice (since it was icy out and there was snow) fell against the wheel and the wheel flipped him and it broke his back and when he kept trying to get up, it cut the nerves to his lunges so he was unable to breath so he died. They put him in a bin in the garage and drove off.
So those dogs didn't even live eight years.
We also had a few cats and they didn't last eight years either, they disspeared. Those most we ever had was ten cats total and only five disappeared. Now they have like none but one hangs around and the other found a new owner. Then the neighbors across the road from us adopted him. My family stopped feeding the extra cats, we only fed mine. My dad got rid of one of them though because she was a pain, she kept climbing on the screens. The rest of the cats went wild. They didn't want all those extra cats and we did have them fixed when they were still kittens. How did we end up with so many cats? Well when I was 12, I threw a male cat in the garage with Peppersalt (our other cat) and they mated and she got pregnant and had three kittens. We kept them because dad said we would need all those cats for Montana to keep the mice away. But two of them mated and the female kitten had five kittens so dad had them fixed because he didn't want anymore cats. Peppersalt was the cat my dad got rid of, he gave her to a guy who's house he appraised.
I don't know what an emetophobe is fearful of, but i had stomach lining issues that made vomiting very painful.

I'm fairly sure emesis means throwing up, and phobe would be 'person with a fear of', but I was just assuming - I didn't look it up or anything.
I'm so sorry, lioness. I didn't get a dog until I was in my teens so I haven't had to lose one yet but I can imagine your pain. I love my dogs very much and I will be extremely sad to lose them. At least you can know that your dog is better now than when he was sick and possibly in pain. He is not in pain now.
A small comfort?
