This is just something to think about because so many Asperger's people out here seem to be having issues that bother them in a negative way. I have noticed that several of my fellow Aspie's that I coorespond with seem to be continually dwelling on all the negative aspects of their life. If I dig around I will find bad things too. But that is not healthy. I choose to be a happy Aspie, not a blue Aspie. Sure---I have had bad times, and I will still have bad times ahead of me---but I try not to dwell on it. I have been dwelling on good things and my interests. But I do understand that certain bothersome issues need to be dealt with. So each Aspie should deal with those issues as necessary. But try to look at good things while you take care of the bad things.

To my fellow Aspies---this is the key to happiness in our lives---dwell on that which makes us happy (our interests). Whenever you feel blue, work on an interest.

Asperger's has this trait---Aspie people generally reject interaction with society and instead turn their focus on interests. H.G. Wells, George Orwell, Hans Christian Anderson, etc. were some of my favorite authors. They had intense interests that drove their writings. I am sure they enjoyed working on their masterpieces.

Again, that is the key to our success as Aspies---we must focus on interests. I truly believe that if we can get those interests working for us, we can be happy. Something else I try to do is take time every day to go to my private part of the house where I hear no one and work on my projects for at least an hour. If you cannot find that kind of time, try for at least fifteen minutes. Or at least meditate about those interests in the best environment available to you.

It's not always the Aspergers or Autism that makes a person focus on the negative. I used to be so positive about everything in life before depression came into my life...

Yes, depression is a tough one---it obviously affects all personality types. I've been depressed a few times in my life. The last time I got real depressed was a couple years ago when I was changing jobs within my school. I thought I had made a mistake. I escaped for hours on end in my bedroom and played solitaire on the computer constantly. Then, I started writing on my novel again (one of my interests) and I got through it. Luckily, the job change was the best move for me. If during depression one can find the strength to absorb into an interest, I think it helps.

*nods* That does work for some kinds of depression
But I'm in a writing school, which is my all time favourite thing to do :D
Luckily meds have helped, but therapy is definitely needed.

Also, the Haven is the place to vent, so you'll see more people with a negative viewpoint then in most of the forums. Are you observating this in all the forums or just a few?

Actually, more in The Haven. But the couple friends I have from the wrongplanet that I coorespond with a lot are negative in all the forums. But yes, you are right in that The Haven would be prone to this due to the venting.

Yeah, I usually avoid here now when I'm in a bad mood.
I have a couple of friends IRL that are like that. Well, they're not really my friends, but they hang out with the group I hang out with, so I have to tune them out if I'm depressed.
I've seen some negativity on all of the forums, but there are some really nice, positive people here too :D

Bah. Happy aspie? How could I be like that?

I don't know if depression did it or if it's just DID or something, but my personality got ripped in half. Kinda like two people in one body. :?
