My brother is in the beginning stages of alcoholism

well it looks my brother wont be far behind me in cracking up. Everytime i see him he is going out to buy cases of beer and going to the casino to gamble. My father was a real bastard(he was a hundred times worse to me) to him as teenager and neglected his formation as an adult while he was a teenager. He wants to be a cop. I dont want to see him go the way i did but how can i help him?

(at least when it happens i will be vidicated about my father being an abusive bastard)

er I dunno, some people have to get into trouble before they realise they're addicted. Have you talked about alcohol addiction to him?

The drinking could have been caused by a number of wrong things during upbringing, but the fact that you brought up gambling... The issues surrounding past neglect need to be dealt with pronto. Parental neglect is bad. It leaves lasting wounds.

I think you should blame his dad for this.
