What's the deal with censorship on television?

Okay, so maybe there is a deal with it. It's okay to say that someone disagrees with another person, but people (some) really seem to hate those who agree that TV should be censored, let alone just disagreeing with them. This mainly happens to republicans, as I can see. I just can't see why people have to be so disrespectful about it though. If you don't agree with me on that, then I don't know which forum I fit in with. This is what made me leave RetroJunk (aside from my disability being mistreated). And, no NT bashing, either. I am not saying I support censorship of any form.

Depends what sort of censorship you mean. If you mean swearing being censored, I think we should agree to disagree with people who support it. But political censorship such as they have in China is utter BS no matter how one spins it, and I happen to dislike those who advocate BS.

I was talking along the lines of swearing being censored.

The same sentiments can be expressed without swearing as with. There is no need for profanity in anything!

Have you ever seen the adult version of Ren and Stimpy? That and that alone is why I believe there are actually good reasons to censor some shows. I admit, however, that we take it way too far most of the time.

It's annoying when they censor stuff on Friends when it's shown on TV, but it shows it properly on DVD. Like once when Ross said, "I hate Chandler, the bastard ruined my life," but for TV it cut the end off so he just said, "I hate Chandler," which is nowhere near as good.

Anyway, they should only censor stuff when it's shown before 9pm, but when they censor South Park and Family Guy when it's on late at night, that's just stupid and unnecessary.

I've always thought that it's strange that Sex and the City swears uncensored, and that's on at 9pm, but Family Guy is censored and that's on at 11pm. What gives?!

TV should be pinned on Sky so we get all day uncensored programming if we wish like with the movie channels.

I remember every once in a while Spike tv claimed to show movies uncensored. One time they were playing the Godfather "uncut". Except when they got to the scene where a woman takes off her top they censored it with that fuzzy stuff they use on Jerry Springer. Liars.

I say I said I was anti-censorship. Sorry, but it really bugs me that people disrespect whoever they disagree with. I am beginning to feel even I don't fit in here now.

How hard is it to change the channel if something you find offensive comes on? What I find offensive is that my tax payer money goes to paying some idiot bureaucrat who then gets to decide what I can and cannot watch on TV. Doesn't the government have bigger problems on its hands then protecting people from the F word or Janet Jackson's nipple on television?

I have noticed that having a friendly debate in society is just about an impossibility anymore without someone getting angry. I blame the influence of the 24hour news channels where its nothing but a shouting match anytime they bring someone on to speak. People see this and then assume that this is how you have a rational argument in everyday life.

The only word(s) I think should be censored is(are) "ret*d."

Right. I can stand changing the channel, but I shouldn't have the right to have all my family's hard-earned money go to the government. That is just wrong. Expect me to stay away from controversial topics like this from now on.
