Is anyone familiar with the website Hot or Not? I received some scattered votes that peaked at around 6 or 8, and received 9.4 as my rating.

I know that they tell you your rating is 'normalized.' However, while voting I gave someone a first vote of '3' (I wanted to be really honest about something) and her rating turned out to be exactly '3.' Could they be lying to us about our own ratings and their 'normalization' procedure?

They might adjust the number of points awarded by the range of points people usually give -- if people mostly give 6-8 for 9.5's, and few people give out 3's, then that makes sense.

They might adjust the number based on what the person giving out the points normally does, so if you normally give out brutally honest answers, it doesn't tweak them.

I don't even like to call it 'brutal' honesty. If anything, lying to them could be brutal...

Anyway, I find it hard to believe that an average of only slightly above 5 could put me in the 90th percentile. I still think that we need to be kinder to the less attractive.

The scary question is, how do I tell if they're lying to me? I can't even search my own picture.
