Since about January of this year, I have been a member of Facebook.

I recently made some comments on Facebook that were rather inflammatory to some.

I will put what I said in the most abstract of terms: "The East (as in East Asia) is better than the West (Western Civilization).

I guess I enjoy traditional Asian culture over contemporary American pop culture. I probably beat that point to death. I guess it has been my way of separating myself from my fears and issues going on with family et al. My interest is more than my interest in Japanese Anime. I also enjoy reading about current events in the area, and contemporary political and economic issues surrounding the region. In addition, I am of Japanese ancestry from my father's side of the family.

I live in a state that is 95 per cent white, and those people are of mostly Anglo-Saxon ancestry. I hav had to deal with racism from people since I was young.

But I have deviated from what I am trying to say.

I got a reply from one of my old "friends" from a video-game forum I used to be a member of saying that I was talking too much about Asian culture and that I would create distance between my friends and me if I kept this up.

However, here is the real kicker.

My older half-sister (who is Japanese) saw what this other person said and told me that she was likewise offended.

She also told me that such postings would create trouble for me once I enter the job market due to prospective employers checking applicants facebook accounts.

I am beating myself up over what I did.

Let people know how terrible you feel about having done something which caused offence, and forgive yourself.

I recently made a social blunder online and I felt so stupid. So I told the friend I offended that I feel like a fool, and I told other friends too, and the embarassment eventually subsided.
