Ok, I wanted to do a random demographical survey here, because I am obsessed with geography.

I wanted to see what the population breakdown of Wrong Planet by populations of their city.

The poll is up on top of this thread and if you don't know the population of your town well you can always wikipedia it unless you live in Bhutan or Laos or Burkina Faso (and I don't know many Bhutanese, Laotians or Burkinabes anyway :o )

Anyway, I am in the 10,000 to 100,000 range.

I really don't know, but if I had to guess, I'd say my town has less than 1,000. This place is pretty much just a street with a Burger King and McDonald's. Well, there is a community college here too.

Holy freakin' sh*t you gotta be kidding me!! !! !! 8O

Not only is the population shocking but the fact that Dobson is even on Wikipedia. I guess every town is on there. Now that I think about it, I guess Dobson is kind of famous for Surry Community College. :P

Now my vote is a lie!! :x

Voted < 1000. Although I don't really live in a city. The nearest incorporated town probably has 100 residents.

Berlin: 3500000 more or less officially, probably more if you count in temporary residents such as students who have their domicile address elsewhere.

My previous home city Istanbul had between 12000000 and 15000000 officially but more like 18000000 in practice.

The whole metropolitan area of Istanbul has less than 12,000,000 by all counts I'm familiar with (as of censuses in 2007). Where are you getting these figures?

My municipality currently is in the 10K to 100K range. Although I'm technically within the bounds of NYC metro/CSA with 19M/22M people, so you need to put that in context.

In 2007, New York City had a population of 8,274,527.

It is ranked 1st by size in the USA, and 12th in the world, but when you actually live here it just feels like a bunch of small neighborhoods. Some are super-friendly and others are not.

Approx 80,000. Outsiders might consider Paisley to be part of the Glasgow metropolitan
area (pop 2 million) but in this country most
towns are ancient settlements and local
identities (reflected in things like football
teams) are important.

I don't live in a city, but the nearest town is Milton Keynes, and that has a population of around 180,000.

The Istanbul figures are wrong. Maybe not all people are officially registered citizens, I am not entirely aware of that. But it is common knowledge in the city that there is more than 15000000 in the city, some say 18000000 but I am not entirely sure where they base that upon. If you look at the officially registered people (so excluding those with an official address elsewhere) it may be different but anyone I asked assured me there is over 15000000 indeed in the city. A figure which I also saw in several travel guides by the way.

I am not putting my money on it though, I am not into statistics or connected to the Istanbul promotional campaigns whatsoever, just stating what all people in the city told me (and I asked not just 1 or 2 for all clarity) as I was curious myself if the figures from some travel guides (> 15000000) were correct. The people all told me it was, although I am not sure if all of those are registered citizens. Maybe some of those are officially registered elsewhere while spending the majority of time in Istanbul.

Our population is just over 3,000 people. No jobs here though, and I think the population is shrinking.
