Running Back to Saskatoon topic

I would love to visit Saskatchewan again, as I used to live there over thirty three years ago. My oldest was born in Meadow Lake. I guess the place has changed since I was last there. I have been to Manitoba and Alverta, but not BC or the Northern territories and provinces. :(

I would also like to explore the eastern provinces. I was last in Montreal in 1967 for Expo. :)

Canada is such a huge land that you could never run out of places to visit. :D

You were in MTL for EXPO 67??! !! !
Wow! I wish I could have witnessed that...
The French Pavilion is now the Montreal Casino and the American Biosphere is not really used anymore but still stands.

Canada is such a big country. I still have to visit the prairies and the northern territories. I may go to Calgary for the stampede at one point and would not mind going camping in Yukon.

Make sure you head over to drumheller to see the dino museum then. Its not so far from Calgary.

And take some night goggles to yukon if you wish to sleep!

LOL! This makes sense. Winters must be depressing when the sun hardly shines.

I went on a trip up the Alaska Hiway last fall, it was incredible, didn't get a chance to stop, because my freind was driving truck, you have to stop at the Liard River Hot Springs in northern BC, but bring your bear repellent. Drumheller is a must, at least a day at the museum. Me and my friends are going to take a trip up the Dempster Highway with a stop in Eagle Plains, for one of their giant hamburgers, then we are going up to Inuvik and have pizza at 3am under the midnight sun.

It's nice. We're the most free country in the world. We have very warm summers and snow in the winter. We have our own national holiday, we have hockey and I can listen to The Clash and not get in trouble with the police.

I live in Nova Scotia and have always lived in Nova Scotia, Canada all my life. It's a beautiful province, friendly people, not too big and not too small. :)

I have a question about Canada. Are all Canadian citizens required to learn and speak both French and English, since Canada is a bilingual country?

I would definitely live in Canada, Montreal or Vancouver, if the weather were better. I mean it, it's a fantastic country with great people but it's soooo COLD! I went to McGill University, and it was Winter from early November 'till late March, seriously. And freezing cold, no respite.

I now live in California, sunshine in Wintertime. :sunny:

Lingua Franca topic

I wish I had learned to speak French. As it is, I have taught myself to read it and understand the grammar. But it is not a requirement, though, I have often wished it was. Having a second and third language is wonderful! :D

To LILI: I went to Expo 67 with my Grade eight class on October 13-16, 1967, just before the fair closed. It was amazing! :D :D :D :D :D

It should be the law, but no, Canada is a free democratic country, I wish I would have learned french because I was in french immersion, but failed badly, was hard enough learning english being dyslexic.

I remember wanting to go to Expo 67, but my family was on a limited budget, so we went to Kelowna BC instead, I would have preferred expo though.

If Canada is a free democratic country, then why is Queen Elizabeth II from Britain in charge of or responsible for the Canadian government?

Meh. It's one of those things that's in theory but in practice, not really necessary. Majority of Canadians actually don't speak both English and French.

Officially, French, along with English may be an official language and has equal status in government and courts etc. In practice, however, about 90% or more French-speaking folks are in Quebec and French isn't spoken that much in other provinces, other places pretty much speak all English anyways except products and stuff are written in both languages.

In the largest cities, there are significant immigrant populations as well, some of which speak English and their own language at home, like the Chinese in Vancouver, and also Toronto has lots of immigrants of South and East Asians too.
