It seems to me that there seems to me alot of people that say they have autism of some form and i wonder if some of them actually dont. some people on here say there whole family is autism? that seems unlikely. As well, many people on here seem quite militant when it comes to a cure, as though its some attempt by society to committ genocide against the "autistic nation". Being austistic is a diease, not a race or culture, and people with autism are no more a people then any other people with a diease. Shouldnt we try to cure diease? to be fair, you probably cant cure adults, if young childern could be give a vaccine to prevent developing autism, that would be good, and ironic too.

well i have never seen a shrink, but i have the symptoms of aspergers - blank face, inappropriate gestures, difficulty making conversation, not reading body language ques, etc. - and i was always alone my whole life. we may have different diagnoses, and some of us may even not fit a textbook dx at all, but we often struggle with the same problems - social isolation, stress, etc.

so whether or not wrongplanet members actually have aspergers or autism (in fact many do not), it really does not matter.

I don't really agree with that point. Having Asperger or not make a big difference. You can fight the same problems who someone suffering "only" from Social Anxiety for example but the origins aren't the same and then the way and chances to win the fight are not really the same !

Some things can be similar, but being born with Asperger is not the same as having contracted personality disorder or having an other disease...

You want a problem, you got one now. Aspergers is not a disease!

Regardless of whether you were born with AS or 'contracted' a personality disorder (?) I think this is still a good place to come to find ways to deal with your issues since it's all about the symptoms anyway.

I have never seen an adult catch autism. I have seen it passed on through genetics. And to be perfectly honest, I would gladly get rid of the downsides of my AS any day.

Of course ! Didn't want to mean that some people could not have their place here, only that it can be important to really know where your problems are coming from in order to find the best way do deal with them. Thinking, for example, that you're autistic if you're not isn't a crime but is surely not the best way to progress (a little like being autistic and not to know about it).

I stop here, not sure to make me understand well.
