i hate the smell of meat and sometimes the taste of it. i'll eat it in small portions and that's all i can take.
i like chicken, seafood(not shrimp), and turkey.

That's interesting, because I never understood how anyone could want their meat above medium. I grew up French and to us, "well done" means you ruined dinner. In France, kids eat their meat rare, it is called "saignant", which literally translates as "bloody", we believe it is much healthier for growth. Adults may have it medium rare, the temperature that is most recommended by chefs to bring out the full flavor of the meat.

Of course, we also eat the meat fully uncooked as well, it is called "steak tartar", which my mom used to make for us, it is delicious.

I eat steak very rarely, as cattle is treated so shockingly poorly these days and we are basically eating diseased animals pumped full of antibiotics and steroids.

I would love to be a raw food vegan, but unfortunately it is an extremely anti social diet, even if it is by far the healthiest choice. I was on it for 6 weeks two Summers ago, and I must say I never looked better, slept better, or had more sustained energy throughout the day, but it is almost impossible to maintain because most food in society is built on eating animals and animal by-products.

I am quite the meat eater, I love a lot of meat, but for me steak has is almost always something I dislike. I don't like the way it feels, the taste is quite poor and I spend ages chewing it. My teeth are quite pointed, and I am pretty bad at grinding and whenever I have something like corn on the cob or steak I end up with pieces stuck in my teath. I also tend to eat quite slowly because it feels like eating too quickly upsets my stomache, and steak is often feels pretty hard to digest compared to other meat.

that steak is absolutely unacceptable to me. i hate the taste and texture of raw meat.

i also hate tough stringy dry steak that is thick and well done.
i have 1 T-bone steak every week on thursday night, and i always buy one that is 1" thick.

meat that is thicker than that must be cooked slower and it dries out if you do not want it rare.

i like t-bones because the smaller flap of meat on the other side of the T bone is the tastiest and tenderest meat i know.
i know scotch fillet is more expensive, and i use it for steak sandwiches i make (after bashing). but the taste is not as well defined as the taste of a t-bone steak.

so i cook a 1" steak on medium high for 4 minutes on each side, and then it is gray all the way through with plenty of "maillard reaction" on it's surface, and it is super juicy and tender and it does not taste like the raw meat that a lion enjoys.

Am I a fan of steak generally? I'd say no more than anyone else.


I love mine rare, that is the only way I will eat it. Soooo good


me too. i eat mine extra blue rare. preferably so it's still even cold in the centre. not sure if it's healthy, but oh well. XD it has to be a good steak though. sh***y steak sucks.

Didn't like steaks as a kid, but that is because my mother (otherwise an excellent cook) would cook the steaks to her liking, which was well done. I accidentally cooked one medium rare as a teenager, and that's the way I've liked it since. Though I have a general to-each-their-own attitude in life, I can't help but get a little frustrated watching someone turn a perfectly good steak into something as dry and tough as shoe leather.

I'm from India - where a reasonable portion (around 40%) of the people is vegetarian (means no animal products (including eggs) at all), and the cow is considered to be a holy animal, and not something to be killed and eaten, so you don't get beef products in the market. However, you might get it in a few restaurants, but rarely. Most non - vegetarians dishes involve chicken, fish, lamb and eggs. You do get other products such as sushi, seafood, turkey, pork (though the pig is considered to be a holy animal for a minority religion and hence most primary food outlets such as Mcd, Subway etc. do not serve it along with beef products) and ducks, but in very small quantities.

Coming from that background, I hadn't had beef or steak for the first 25 years of life. I had heard a lot about it and being a non vegetarian agnostic, was curious to try it. So the first opportunity I got was in Poland on a job assignment. I ordered a well done steak at the Hard Rock Cafe Warsaw on my 25th birthday. I was really excited to see it as it was being served out to me. I started cutting into it, and first reaction on just cutting it was - wow, this is tough!.. then I tore into my first bite and whoa - this isn't what I thought it would be! - extremely hard and chewy, like eating rubber. I think cooking the steak must've taken lesser time than the time it took to cut the meat, let alone chewing it! I finished my meal somehow - by hook or by crook, thanks to the nice fries, salad and sauce served along with the steak.

So then I thought maybe the cook doesn't suit me. So next year I got the chance to travel to Australia for a long term assignment. So I thought let me try it again, with a different cook. So I ordered a medium steak at a local pub in a suburb. When the waiter was walking towards me with my meal, I crossed my fingers, hoping it would be a better experience this time. Well, surprise surprise - the first bite again told me I'm again onto a long and arduous meal for the next half hour.

I'm yet to try the rare side of it, but I hardly think I'll be ever trying it. It was just yuck! :eew: I've tried beef in some other forms here in Australia, but only the Whopper burger from Hungry Jacks is somewhat likeable. Otherwise, for me, beef just sucks! I've never understood what the hupla is all about!

I just love chicken though - so soft, juicy and tender! And IMO, some of the very best chicken dishes on Earth are from India - a large variety of chicken curries (Butter chicken being the best) served with naans (leavened Tandoor-baked Indian flatbread)., such a large variety of tikkas - boneless pieces of chicken marinated in various spices and cooked in a tandoor served with a thin flatbread called Rumaali Roti, chicken biryanis!! !! Wherever you live, trust me - do try these, if available! Apart from chicken, lamb is also very famous - if possible, try rogan ghosht or mutton curry! Gosh I miss Indian food here in Australia!
