ME! I wanna jump on this new thread bandwagon!

Ok me first...

"Shrimp on the barbie". I have never heard of or ever had prawns on a BBQ, and never will (if there is someone here who has in fact had prawns on a BBQ please say so. Maybe it is some sort of delicacy, I dunno). I like my school prawns fresh and on ice, thanks.

Kangaroos and other aussie animals do not greet you at the airport when you arrive in the country. We have an electric fence around my local air field.

Proceed with other fun stereotypes.

I've actually had barbecued prawns (I think I've probably eaten most forms of seafood prepared in most ways, except sushi; I like my fish cooked, thanks). They're ok, if a little different than your standard fare (they have nothing on my old favourite, the prawn cutlet though).

Stereotypes....

It's a hard one, as I probably fit many of them in some way or form, so I don't see them as stereotypes (a lot of the stereotypes from overseas are of people who live in the rural areas).

I don't have any, except perhaps that beer doesn't come in your typical 375ml cans; it comes in liters!

Because I am uncultured :P.

Plus we never owned a BBQ (it wouldn't have been used if we did. We weren't much into spending time together as family). All the BBQ's I had were at other peoples houses.

Well, you could have one as a pet if you wanted; just don't tell anyone.

The local koala drinks out of the birdbath, and he/she also lives in and eats my trees, so technically, it's my pet. :P

...that there's a rabbit-proof fence the length of Australia.
...that there's a place in Australia where people live in holes in the ground, and dig for gemstones
...oh, and there was a rebel who made bullet-proof armor in the mid-19th Century and led a
rebellion
...that Captain Bligh's 3rd Mutiny was when he was governor of Australia...;)

There's not much left of the Rabbit Proof fence now. It's mostly fallen apart (as per my mum's nomad friend who visited recently).
I wanna visit Coober Pedy one day :)

there is a fair proportion of Australians that are sport mad, beer or bundaberg rum guzzling types that don't mind a beat up on foreign imports (immigrants, foreign beer, foreign cars) and love a hot meat pie as much as they love their v8 engined road barges or four wheel drives.

actually, that might not be too far from the truth :chin: hehehe

BBQs are very routine for us. We have them quite often in Summer - like most weekends and some weeknights.

I don't drink beer though .... but I do drink the original Australian currency, Rum.

I don't have any native animals as pets because I live in the suburbs. I used to have a pair of Sulfur-Crested Cockatoos though (but they made too much noise when the local cockies flew over and the neighbours complained).

They all drink Fosters and XXXX, wear hats with corks on them and listen to AC/DC while practicing their digiredoo skills.

I am aussie and don't drink alcohol, because I don't like the taste.

Lots of aussies reckon fosters isn't very good.

When my dad travelled to america he was told that he spoke very fast. (he doesn't by aussie standards)
