On the back of a motorbike when I was about 116, I don't remember exactly but it was over 100mph. I wasn't afraid at the time but going fast in a car makes me very nervous. I'm not sure if that's just because I rarely go in cars now and haven't for a long time, maybe.

haha, I just had a funny thought. Imagine the authorities now start looking at this thread and tracking speeders down. Believe me, where I live, the police actually care to track people down. They urge citizens to call police if they find anyone going 150km/h or more (I forgot what speed) on the freeway. There are also like two helicopters that roam above the freeways in Ontario to find speeders and then they will send some police cars to pull the driver over.

They're not doing a very good job. 150 km/h is my routine speed on the DVP in light traffic, and on the 407 I was actually stopped doing 250 and let go.

90mph on Interstate 10 (each case was in rural areas).

The speed limit in Texas is 80 mph on I-10 between Kerrville and El Paso, and on I-20 between Odessa and I-10 (near Van Horn).

It's 70 mph on all other rural freeways, and on some non-freeways, and 65 mph on urban freeways. The lowest I've seen was 60 mph on the I-45 Causeway in Galveston.

About 90 mph on an empty Interstate through the mountains. Speed limit was 70 mph. It was amazing that a Jeep Wrangler without a top or doors could go that fast, but it did!

@ BLK95TA
Were you listening to Joe Walsh's "Life's been good" at the time?

No. I was listening to this.

- I have pegged the speedometers on both my 1970 Corvette & 1970 Dodge Challenger RT: that be 160 the former & 150 the latter; as both are also modified/enhanced from their original stock build, those speeds are understated even - but, at such an velocity I didn't have the desire to note them precisely (was busy trying to keep 'car on the road'.) This was done on two lane roads with NO traffic in sight (obviously) so that had I 'lost it' the only human entity that would've been the worse physical wear would have been myself.

fun story, thanks for sharing. BTW, i love your name. I too have read an appreciated many books written by EM Cioran.

100 mph. I was on the way to Arizona from California to see the Dodgers in spring training. Stupid of me; but I was averaging about 90 and wanted to make me a little record in the empty highway. I also wanted to stay awake.

After I take my dad to the train station at 4:30AM, I take this one fairly long strech of road, and if there's no cars on it, I mash the pedal to the floor.

This past week, in the Jeep Cherokee(not grand cherokee), I reached 100mph. Going that fast in a car that's built to go off road is weird. Because, at around 75-85mph the car vibrates and shakes. But before and past that speed, it's ok.

I'd be afraid to go 90 in a Wrangler.
