Does anyone have some good healthy vegetarian ideas for pet meals to supplement a carnivorous diet?

^^ Greetings tonin. I do believe there is a number of vegan kitty foods available. However, I believe this is is best to ensure that they contain taurine.

^^ Here is one little website for you. However I am very sorry as this is a little English website.

You can feed a dog veggies in their diet. However, cats are obligate carnivores - it's best if you don't feed them a vegetarian or vegetable protein(corn/wheat/soy gluten) based diet.

hey TONIN.......agree with above.....ok for canine, not good for houseus cattis (uzbekistani for cats). i've been at several sanctuaries where a decision was made to go 'ethical'. no meat products, no milk products. did not last long.
dogs would adjust, cats could not. sad, but true.

what does your veterinarian say? the ones i know say no for cats. tis a shame.

Cats eat grass or other greens to help them "eliminate" hair balls. You can buy "kitty greens" at pet shops or pet supply places a lot of times too. They grow very fast in a little pot or pan. I have seen my dog eat a little grass too, but that was when her stomach was a little upset. She will eat a vegetable if we give it to her usually, especially if it comes with a meat too- she rarely turns down people food! She will not eat green beans though.

I don't know that it is safe to make any pet that is normally carnivorous or omnivorous eat vegan because they have different needs from humans. I would ask the vet before doing something like that.

Thanks for all your helpful advice.

I think I will stick with the recommended kitty diet then let him choose what he likes and doesn't like from our human food. I will only add vegetarian options of his choice to supplement, not replace, his diet.

He'll be a house cat too, no roaming at night killing little wild critters and birds. A wildlife friendly kitty!

I'll see how he goes on a lead for his daily saunter until we can build him a fancy enclosure.

humans who have evolved to have a mostly fruit and veg diet (aparently we should eat meat but no more than 3 portions a month) are omnivours.

cats are carnivores, they rely on meat and fish for their diet, its what they have evolved to eat, same for dogs.
I know vegatarians don't like the whole animal eat animal thing but it is neccisery to some animals for a healthy life.

If you want a pet that is suited to a vegatarian's tastes you should look for a herbivourous pet.
