Do you believe in 'em? Got any good stories?

I occasionally hear the Ghost Hiker. I'll be leisurely walking along a hiking trail ... desert or mountains, doesn't matter ... when suddenly I'll plainly hear footsteps behind me. I whirl around, but there's never anyone there. I'm not the only one who's heard him ... other people have told me they hear him, too, which says to me it's not just a simple hallucination or whatever.

I've heard all kinds of theories as to what causes the footsteps, but none of them hold up. So I don't know what the hell it is ... calling it a "ghost" is as good an explanation as any, I guess.

I'm willing to give the idea of ghosts the time of day. If I really thought I saw one, I wouldn't keep trying to think of reasons why it couldn't be a ghost.

I live in an old school that has been converted to apartments. I had heard that it was haunted, but never sensed anything. In fact I wondered how so many generations of children could pass through the building leaving no "residue" at all.

One day I got on the one elevator left over from school days and as soon as I entered I sensed the atmosphere was different: the air sort of crackled and the elevator was darker than usual. I was about to press the Down button when I heard, "Hello" behind my right shoulder. I turned around--nothing; opened the elevator door to see into the hallway--nothing. I was about to press the Down button again when I heard, "Hello" again in an exasperated tone. I turned around--nothing; peered into the hall--nothing. I was wondering how to answer wnen all of a sudden the atmosphere cleared: the crackling stopped and the elevator lighting brightened. I went down without incident, stopping at every floor to make sure someone wasn't talking near the elevator shaft.

When I got to the ground I walked outside, since the elevator shaft was a later addition and is outside the original building. There was a woman leaning over a balcony across the street. I thought maybe I had heard her through the walls. "Hello, " I called and she answered, somewhat reluctantly, "Hello." It was a different voice.

That's my ghost story, for what it's worth. Do I believe in ghosts? I look at it this way: I need a bigger experience to truly believe.

I've heard of mountain angels. You'll be hiking with the sun beating down you all day, and just at twilight you'll reach a stream where someone left a beer in the cool water.

I believe in them, but I don't have any stories to tell.

I've seen things I can't explain otherwise. Some scary, some not.

I do not believe in souls of dead people that wander the earth, but I don't think that all of the people who describe ghost encounters are lying. I think that there is a real phenomenon causing people to have these experiences, and we just don't know what it is yet.

i'm like the cowardly lion- "i DO believe in spooks! i DO i DO i DO i DOiDOiDOiDO!"
seriously, it's an awfully big multiverse for just one lifetime. i believe we co-exist in a larger sphere which emcompasses all time, past/present/future, and with entities long gone as well as those yet to come into physical reality.

I don't believe in ghosts as I don't believe in life after death.

That said, I'd love to spend the night in a haunted house and be proved wrong.
