You're not alone, I used to have a lot of trouble with this as well, still do if I'm not paying attention to it. I guess the only solution is to be conscious of it and make constant efforts to correct it. Just one of those things.

Depends. If it's bright out I can't. My eyes are too sensitive.

I tend to do that, and in my younger years I put effort into keeping my head up (would get crap from people otherwise). If I don't think about it I do end up looking at the ground again. At my age now, though, few people seem interested in giving me a bad time.

I think it may be a visual thing -- there's less visual information to have to deal with that way.

I walk with my head down as well. It feels unnatural to walk with my head up.

I did this unthinkingly when I was younger and depressed. As I grew less depressed and more self-confident, I naturally stopped doing it. Now I mostly only walk with my head down when I'm having visual sensory issues (usually because it's too bright out) or when I'm really interested in the ground.

I walked with my head down, still do sometimes.

When I was still at home, my mother had a neighbours daughter in decorating our kitchen, one day out of the blue she asked me 'Are you dyslexic?' I had suspected I was so said 'yes, how did you know?' - she explained it was because I walked with my head down, and she did too, many people with dyslexia do this apparently because of a link with balance; if we walk with our heads up or look round we can lose balance so are either more prone to walking into things, not walking straight, getting dizzy, or being more clumsy. Not in a major way, but enough so that we adjust and walk with our heads down.

I thought most people walked with their heads down, at least I do. Shows how much I know.

Depends whether the weather is hospitable or hostile. In winter I usually pay attention to the ground I'm walking on, but in summer I try more to observe my surroundings so as to map out an area more accurately within my mind. I've given up caring what people think about walking with their heads looking forward, especially in winter... if people wish to slip on the ice every few seconds, that's their deal, but personally I rather not.

I walk with my head down because I'm afraid of making eye contact with anyone.
