An online friend has told me that it is fashionable now to be a nerd. Apparently, people are purposely dressing like nerds and wearing glasses with plain glass lenses in them in order to be cool.

Guys, did you get this memo? I didn't get this memo.

Maybe i should start wearing tops with my boobs hanging out and low rise jeans. I cant forget the heavy makeup and streaks in my hair.

This whole "tech - geek" look pisses me off

geek chic has been 'cool' for aaaages.

real nerds are cool anyway.. or can be. i have no idea what cool is, other than an absence of heat.

I don't understand fashion. Like when people were paying $80 for a pair of ripped jeans. ??? (I don't know if that price is accurate. I just remember it was about 4 times as much as I would willingly pay for a pair which wasn't ripped.) Also, being Hungarian Roma, I get pretty annoyed by those people who think that being a "Gypsy" is a fashion choice which involves wearing long skirts and scarves with coins on them. (In before "Get over it. It's just a word which has evolved.") Why can't people just be happy being themselves? Especially when those same people probably look down on the people they're faking to be like.

I was a natural nerd since day 1 so I don't have to work too hard to do the nerd trend right there.

No, I definitely did not get that memo. Finally, I'm considered 'cool' by the general population. If I cared about status, I would feel validated.

They are not real nerds, they are f*****g hipsters. They don't even get Star Trek humor for gods sake!

'Geek' is an insult; 'nerd' is not.

actually, a geek was a circus performer, more specifically part of the side show. the performer's act consisted of a single geek, who stood in center ring to chase live chickens. It ended with the performer biting the chickens' heads off and swallowing them.

it is only recently that the term has been applied to nerds.

I was referring to the more 'recent' definition of the word, and I believe that Silhouette-Song was doing so also.

So *that's* what a hipster is! Every time I asked someone, they just pointed at some obscure post and said 'that'.

Like I'm supposed to know? lol
