Is there anyone here who is interested in microbiology/mycology?

I love cell biology, and biology in general.

I did a half-semester of microbiology this year, and I'm hopefully taking it as a full subject next year, and am minoring in the subject :)

I love microbiology, but I find "environmental microbiology" tedious beyond belief. Being a littoral University, NUI specialises in marine biology, so we had to endure two lectures on Bacteria in mud sediments. I'd rather just do genetics :P

My mother is looking for advice/assistance on how to prove/disprove a link between fungus and Autism Spectrum disorders (Asperger's in particular). She would like to make it clear that Asperger's and Autism are two very different things, as they effect different regions of the brain. She is currently working on a paper on the differences between the two and it was early in the research for this paper that she stumbled upon similarities between fungal diseases and Asperger's Syndrome and Autism. She will be finishing this paper soon, but wants to start a project afterwards, as the amount of research on fungus is a joke (virtually none) and she can't find any environmental factors for Autism and Asperger's. She feels so strongly about this because the Amish have next to no cases of any form of Autism, and they don't have any forced air, which redistributes mold.

My brother will be majoring in it in university. I find biology overall interesting.

My mother will be finishing the paper within the next 2 weeks and will post it on this site. This is her first real research paper, so it may or may not be all that good. She will try to outline in the paper why she feels fungus is responsible for Autism and Asperger's. She needs help from anyone who can help with the fungus information and would like to start a project. She will also try to outline why she thinks coal is an effective weapon against fungus, although she is not sure how it applies to the human body.

Consider it a bump perhaps but I came here just to post 'no'

I am not sure how a link exists between mycology and autism. Should be interesting.

I would like to answer the initial question. Yes, there are people interested in microbiology.
