Belgium.
Of course we have two or three poor neighborhoods in the biggest cities where criminality is relatively high but I have talked to people who live there and they don't even think it's that bad. Definitely nothing compared to the gang violence in big cities in for exemple the US.

its funny, you add the yearly death toll in violent crimes of newyork, LA, DC, STL and miami and you're still short of puertoricos death toll.

Where's that then?

And yes, I have looked up 'rough' neighbourhoods, mainly to ascertain as to whether or not they'll be relatively safe to visit during the day.

I live in the Rainy City. I'll let you guess.

If u lived in the US I was gonna say Seattle, WA

i've lived in enough of those kinda places i don't need to look them up. been robbed at gunpoint, had our car stolen (twice), tire bolts loosened, former husband assaulted on the lawn. my city is nicknamed Deadmonton because of the number of murders here.

i also lived in a place where i had a B&E while i was inside alone with my kid, and another place where a pack of half-wild dogs sadly killed a child.

funny thing is, most of those neighbourhoods looked clean and well-kept. in canada the projects and indian reserves (reservations) are dangerous but don't look like it. now i live in sickening suburbia.

Last crap place I lived in Canada was Saskatoon, which was (maybe still is) the rape capital of Canada.

Sad thing is, over the last 11 months I have noticed, where I am now, more and more signs of places like m&h when I was there. When I first came here I went looking for the crappy areas and help centres, because of what I am taking in uni. The papers had said the problem was really bad here, but it wasn't as bad as I had expected. I saw no open drug use those first couple months here, but about a month ago I saw someone shooting-up outside the police station during the day.

Where are you from? Every place in the world has places that people who don't live in tend to avoid if they can.

Most of Stockton, CA is pretty bad. Especially in the area of East 9th street. I had to go down that street more than enough times and every time I did I felt like I seriously was going to be shot. Every house had bars on their windows and all these gang banger lookin thugs would stare me down. Like I didn't belong there (which I didn't). That's one place in CA I'm not going to miss.

I've already said where I'm from in this topic already I think.

And yes there are places that people would avoid, but like I've said I talked to people who live in those neighborhoods and they wouldn't describe it as dangerous.

Of course not, they have to rationalise it to themselves so they feel 'safe' living there a lot of the time.

Oh, you're from Belgium. Oh. Didn't know that.

hey Saskatoon still does have that honour! i know way too much about Hastings. it's a very sad place. Canada has a dark side. for goodness' sakes some of the public libraries in my city have sharps (needle) dispensers in the toilets for the drug users.

did you have a different username a year ago? hmmm i guess you might not wanna share that, or you would still be using that name lol...

I was once told that libraries were almost near perfect and way better then right on the street.
Do they have sharps containers in city hall? I remember just before I left Victoria heading to Saskatchewan going into the vic city hall and ended up seeing them in there as well.

hmmm just realised this might get confusing for some when I post a response to my temp name lol
