Combination of things I guess.

Lack of social cohesion and responsibility.

Long term effects of poverty, racism, unemployment among youth in particular. More recent anger at the system, police, government, banks.

But primarily plain old yobbishness, criminality, and not giving a rat's arse about anyone
else but themselves.


Sounds like the LA riots in '92 - legitimate grievences morphed into something that was just stupid and tragic, but life returned to normal surprisingly quickly given the extent of the devastation, hopefully it will end there soon...

I need to stop going shopping right after I get out of work. I just end up staring at all the food blankly. Then I see someone approaching out of the corner of my eye, and I pretend to be studying the products intently, like I'm looking for a specific product. Then I realize I am staring at sardines, something that I would never buy.
