i wonder if any wisdom can be gleaned from the design of my giant [brand name] hybrid-electric bike that i ride when my aching joints won't let me pedal very hard. it has an electric motor in the front wheel along with a torque sensor in the pedalcrank, that can tell when i am pedaling and it kicks in extra electric torque to help me up the hills and from dead stops. the bike is heavy as hell at roughly 65 pounds [10 of that are the twin batteries], surely it could have been made lighter. anyways, it is a relatively simple hybrid system that still cost a pretty penny for a bicycle [i got mine at half-price when the bike shop discovered they wouldn't sell very well], but it got me thinking that hybrids cars could be simpler and cheaper than what they presently are.
