Hmm, I wonder who is the best qualified to recognize an Asperger's

I can't vote for either, as in my experience both are able to identify an aspie pretty easily. We come across as "different" to everyone. It's just that normally NT individuals become annoyed with us sooner because they don't understand us as well.

I'd say NT's are good are rejecting people that don't fit the mold, but not that good at giving accurate diagnosis.

A psychologist. A lot of NTs don't understand Asperger's well enough to recognize it, but there are also a lot of Aspies who desire kinship enough that they will attempt to give an amateur diagnosis to anyone they see as different from NTs. Neither group is qualified to make a diagnosis/decision without prior study in the field.

That said, I think Aspies are more proficient in recognizing Aspie traits than NTs are, and that might make the bit of difference between a good diagnosis and a bad one.

And so are lots of psychologists. Some of the claims from such people echoed here on the forums are from complete QUACKS that have no insight into the diagnostic criterias at all, and could not tell the difference between HFA and a hole in the ground!

Some people think they are experts on everything because they have a degree. These people are deluding themselves.

The person who could best recognize an Aspie in the wild would be a psychologist with Asperger's. Though I'm not sure that such a rare creature exists.
