...tried something new, just because everybody was talking about it, and found that you actually liked it?

I find that on a lot of online forums most people talk about and are obsessed with various things, usually tv shows, that I either have never seen or have seen and didn't like. Sometimes it is annoying constantly feeling like nobody wants to talk to you because you have different interests. I've actually tried a couple different things that people were obsessed with, but, other than Harry Potter, I disliked most of them for various reasons.

However, in a vain attempt to not feel so left out, even here, I'm thinking of trying some new things. Anyway, I would be curious to know if there is something you tried because everybody was raving about it and found that you liked it? Maybe a tv show, movie, book, clothing item, food? Anything?

P.S. I'm posting this here because I know people with Autism have a hard time changing their habits and also have obsessions with certain things, so I thought his would be the right place. Feel free to move this post if you feel it's necessary.

Yes.

There was a radio station here (which sucks now and I hate the music they play and it's not the same as it was back in 1997) that was popular among kids in my elementary school and they all listened to it and the radio announcers would use bad language and did the morning zoo show every morning and do crazy stuff and made their own music. They even did the a parody of the Spice Girls called Spice Girls Got Run Over by a Reindeer, they did several music parodies and I remember the Spice Boys they did and they also played top 40 music because it was a top 40 station but they also did way back play back by playing 80's music for an hour on weekdays and on Saturday night, they do Saturday night dance or whatever by playing the same music but it be in a different version like dance version and I remember they did 24 hrs of Christmas music on Christmas Eve. But I have the CDs I bought used and it has the radio station classics on it they used to do back in the days, especially the song parodies they did.

I remember trying pogs in third grade. Kids were always having them in school so I got some one day and all I did was looked at them and put them back in the tube. I never knew what they were for. Kids just had them in their hands and on their desks and it seemed like you were cool if you had some but when I had them, no one cared and I was still different. Nothing changed.

I remember going to OMSI here in Portland. Kids from my neighborhood were all of a sudden talking about it like it was something awesome and new so one day our parents took us there and we liked it but we spend our whole day in a room with Richard Scary where kids were playing and we stayed until closing time so we didn't get to look at everything in the building. Then after that mom took my brothers and I there sometimes on weekends and we always enjoyed it.

I remember when I heard Teleubbies were popular and even some kids in my middle school liked it and also the fact they came from the UK so one day in 8th grade I decided to watch it and I fell in love with the show and got obsessed with it. I tried to keep it a secret but my dad would catch me watching it and tell my mother I was watching it and when she had no reaction about it, I started to be open about it and mom was disgusted by it so she tell me to not tell anyone I watch that show or else I get made fun of. Then she started to act cool about it when she found out lot of teens watch it because she started to ask them at work when she have them as her patients and they always said they never tell anyone they watch it. It was a guilty pleasure.

I did this with the last two TV shows I got into, The Office and Modern Family. My sister loved The Office, so I decided to start watching it my freshman year and I got hooked. Absolutely love it. Similar story for Modern Family, except I just started watching that this fall.

Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter mostly.

These days I'm into things people think are nerdy and I'm sticking with them.

No, not really. Sometimes, I found something rather interesting and later I discovered there are others that like the same thing.

I'll try anything if people are recommending it. Usually it's junk but sometimes not. I found Parks and Recreation (US TV series) after hearing lots of Community fans liking it.

Sports, I'd guess. I was always in my own little world as a kid sort of oblivious to everything going on around me and how people perceived me. I was highly imaginative and would create my own entertainment full of noises and languages that weren't based on anything that no doubt concerned my family and helped make me seem weird I am sure in other kids' eyes. Sports kind of reeled me in a bit and forced me to partake in social activities enough were I could interact with my peers on some level. I don't think I ever fit in really, but I was good enough at sports to where I could coexist and appear relatively normal for the most part. Unfortunately, you can't play sports forever.

A little over a month or two ago, I began to notice that people all over this site were raving over the cartoon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I decided to give it a try to see what all the fuss was about, and it wound up becoming one of my primary special interests.

Similarly, I became hooked on Doctor Who during last summer thanks to people on this site bringing it up a lot.
