I have 8 tattoos. I do not regret getting them. I believe they are right for me, and I am an Aspie.

I found this tread trying to google and see if other aspies had tattoos..

I have alot of them - Most of both my arms, some on my hands, my whole chest, alot of my abdomen area, two big pieces on my back, and a few on my neck.

I don't necessarily fit the "look" of what someone might expect an aspie to look like. Not that there is a particular look, which I try to explain to people, just wondering if there were other aspies more like me in the way that they have alot of tattoos, and maybe live a more "alternative" lifestyle.

As far as what you might regret, and what I regret - Well I was just obsessed with getting/having them, so I jumped into getting alot of them at a very fast rate as a teenager, and alot were done by a friend who was apprenticing at the time. Although I still love having tattoos, and continue to get them (at age 30 now), I DO regret not waiting on a more talented artist to put them on me.

There's a saying in the "tattoo community", though probably you've heard it - Good tattoos aren't cheap, and cheap tattoos aren't good.

My line of thinking with tattoos is, draw whatever you want as a tattoo on yourself in permanent marker. You'll be pissed after it being there for like 2 days. At least that's the way it works for me. For others...I don't know.

I'd love to have the Kinks logo tattooed on my left bicep. Than I can take my identity to Heaven with me. :D

Same here! I have four tattoos and don't regret any of them.
The pain can actually feel quite pleasurable in certain places.

Aspies have flesh so why not get a tattoo.

I was nervous back when I decided to show my first tattoo to my mother. I thought it was really cool when she said it was beautiful.

I waited until I was sure what I wanted, where I wanted it, and where I wanted to go to get the work done before I made my move. Neither tattoo is perfect, especially the first, and I've had to deal with that. But they both have spiritual meaning for me, and they represent a healthy commitment to living in the body I have, as well. I have many imperfections, physical and otherwise, but I'm okay with that. Being imperfect is something I share with everyone else on the planet.

I'd heard several times that getting inked can be addictive. For some, maybe it is. But I got the two I have in my 20s, and I feel as though I'm really done. I have no regrets, but I got a sense of completion after the second one, and that hasn't changed in the decades since.

To me, the human body itself is a stunning work of art. Whether male or female, young or old, slender or super-sized: in all it's myriad variations, it is breathtakingly beautiful.

To me, tattoos are equivalent to graffiti. Most of the time, they are a defilement of the architect's design, but - once in a while - they become art, the kind that speaks to the soul.

For me, a tattoo would simply never work. For you, it may. Just, if you DO decide to get inked, make sure it's something worthwhile. Art, whether on your wall, standing on your table, or on your arm (leg/back/chest/whatever), is NEVER a mistake.

Make sure you get ART (whatever that means to you), not a tattoo.

Found this thread very encouraging. I want to get a tattoo this summer after I meet some goals I've set for this year. I want it to be for me and to be a constant reminder that I can do what I put my mind to. The only problem is I really like quotes and I want to get Ghandi's "You must be the change that you wish to see in the world" on the side of my shoulder and I'm not sure how to pull it off. I just wanna make sure it looks masculine so maybe I'll put some border around it. I'm thinking about getting a star of life on the other shoulder because i am an EMT, but I am not sure because I will be changing careers in the next few years after college. (I'm pre law with accounting, computer & poli sci emphasis, so totally different field. haha) If anyone has any advice or pointers I would greatly appreciate constructive input. Thanks 8)

I can't see why not. If I had things my way, I would've already had one, or even a few.

Aspie or non-aspie, I don't think tattoos should be an impulsive thing.

I want a tattoo. I know what elements I want, I know what size I want it and I know where I want it. I've wanted it for almost 5 years. For me it will be a symbol of what I've gone through in life and what good can come out of it. I want a lotus flower and a dragonfly. To ancient Egyptians the lotus flower meant rebirth, to Buddhists it means purity and spiritual awakening and to Hindus it means several things that include spirituality, beauty and prosperity. I also want the dragon fly because it is a symbol of change, maturity and living in the present. They are both associated with water which is essential to life. Before I get it I need to decide on colors because I want those to have meaning too and not just be pretty.

I think that it depends on the invididual aspie, as it would for the individual NT. Personally, I can do without tattoos. I know that I would come to regret anything that I would get now at some future date.

I don't see why being an aspie would make a difference when it comes to tattoos. Personally, I'm an aspie and have two, one on my right foot and one spread across the center of the top of my back and the back of my neck. I don't regret them at all, and have only grown to love them more over time. I want to get more, but don't know yet what I want or where.

My only advice: carry the design around with you for a year, taking it out and looking at it whenever possible. If you're not sick of it at the end of the year and your decision on where to place it hasn't changed, then go for it. But be absolutely sure it's what you want. My other advice is that if you want a mainstream job, place it somewhere that you can cover up if need be.
