You might want to take a look at open source ecology if you are intending to get a bunch of broke ass aspies to build a community.
You also might want to investigated building techniques like cob or rammed earth, very good sound and thermal insulation and also very cheap to do if you have the right land. (all materials are free and a community can provide free labour).
In terms of 'how much land do we need to sustain ourselves' it is an impossible question to answer without a lot more information. One person can have ten thousand acres but still starve if the land isn't flat enough farm, receive enough light to grow crops, have good soil fertility and an adequate water supply.
You need all of these things or you die. The exception being if you can supply millions of dollars to the project which enables you to grow salad in Antarctica.
The thing that's most going to provide comfort to myself and many others is staying with the store-bought technology; essentially on paper it will be much like your average home tract with the HOA being made up of people on the spectrum. If other homeowners' associations can dictate what color to paint the trim and whether you can hang a flag from your balcony or not, it should be very easy to draft a covenant that specifies that no NT has a chance of getting in, very specific sensory requirements would be a good example. As far as the broke factor; how many have parents who would give about $1000 to get us out from under their roof?
The land itself I've seen averages a $200 payment over 3 years, property tax about $90/ year. Even divided among 10 aspies that's less than $30 a head per month for the spot we'd be sitting on. Building materials can be had on a just-in-time basis, those will be a pretty big expense, but like the land, once they're paid for that's money in the pocket.
