For a lot of people, clothing is one of many ways to express yourself visually. And I'm not sure why so many assume people are uncomfortable in their clothes. I think it's par for the course that aspies are going to be more likely to experience discomfort in various types of clothing because of sensory issues. But a lot of people wear "smart" clothes and are perfectly comfortable.

People dress smart because they want to show off their nerdyness

I have sensory issues with clothes so I simply cannot wear anything tight / restrictive. My smartest clothes are a pair of one-colour trousers (with pockets as pockets are important for me) and a tartan men's shirt, and army boots.

Suits do project an air of intellectual and cultural superiority, or at the very least social respectability. If two guys approach you, one of them in a suit and the other in casual wear, how would you react? Honestly ...

I can only surmise that it came from a long tradition of the fact that the more possessions a person has, shows off how much money they have. So people are meant to dress smart to show they have enough money to buy a set of clothes they wouldn't otherwise wear just to show they can afford to.

Everything NT's do, past and present seems to be based around money. Personally i love when i see people that have so much money that they no longer care going to formal events in really daggy clothes.
