Don't they already make something like that? The local gas station sells what they call disposable dvd movies. For $8 you get this disc that looks like clear plastic laminated with paper. It says you can watch the movie 5-6 times before it no longer becomes watchable. The disc looks really weird. Reminds me of those plastic 45rpm records they used to put in cereal boxes in the early 70's.

I don't know what the Blue Ray is, but the video store has like maybe 6 Blue ray type discs for rent. So doesn't seem like something I would invest in. Regular dvd looks good enough for me.

No, the blu-ray player is the only thing keeping the PS3 alive. The system is a poorly designed piece of crap, and when you buy one, you get a 50/50 shot at buying a paper-weight.

Blue-Ray is Sony's attempt to change the digital media market. Instead of DVD, you get Blue-Ray. But it's expensive and you have to buy all new hardware to play 'em, so I highly doubt that the world will be switching over any time soon. It is amusing to see the desperate attempt by Sony to get the technology to catch on---in Casino Royale you get close ups of Sony's Blue-Ray player and Blue-Ray disks while James Bond checks security tapes. On movie commercials now you see "Now Available on DVD and Blue-Ray disc." Basically, a Blue-Ray disc holds about 25 GB of data per layer versus the 4.7 on a DVD. There is also the option HD DVD that holds about 15 GB of data per layer. So a Blue-Ray disc can hold all three LoTR movies, basically...

I love my PS2, but there is nothing better than the Wii!

It's the cheapest of the next-gen systems at $250 USD. Plus it's a shedload of fun.

Yeah, but you have to adjust for the exchange rate.

Course, you're getting hosed on the PS3. It sells for $600 USD and the price it sells for down under is something around $750 USD or thereabouts.

Anyway, I'm not buying any Blu-ray or HD-DVD till the things are able to actually compete with regular DVDs. I don't have two thousand dollars to drop on a Blu-ray player on top of buying movies for it that I already own.

Truth is, we have to wait and see what the porn industry goes with. Remember VHS v. Betamax? For the moment, they have said that they are staying with DVD.

I'm quite certain that porn is going with HD-DVD, since while they were initially very supportive of Blu-ray, once porn companies started approaching Sony about the subject Sony reps became very hostile and said they would not allow porn on Blu-ray.

They've since changed their stance, but I doubt porn companies are the type to forget a slight. :P

I switched over from VHS to DVDs, but frankly I need more time to savor my collection before switching over to another format. Also, I need something with advantages.

I don't even need a DVD player, as I don't even use my PS2 as one.
