I'm listening to a live version of Charles Mingus's "Fables Of Faubus" from The Complete Bremen Concert. I actually picked up this double CD for a steal (9.99) at the record store. Somehow I get the idea they were smoking crack when they priced it. It's probably not one of the more high profile shows of the Sextet tour but this version of the song is easily the definitive out of what I own. Plus it includes Johnny Coles. He was the least talented member of that group, but at least his trumpet-playing could have been described as "in the arena" of the others' musicianship.
