Poem to memorize the leaders of France (I wrote.)
Pepin the Great was De Facto, De Jure
He succeeded to sons Carloman and Charlesmagne
Very Religious was Louis the Fair
Charles the Bald may hadn't much hair
Louis the Second talked with a stutter
France was divided between two brothers
Carloman the Second and Louis The Third.
Charles the Fat was a fine German King.
Followed by Odo, who loved fighting
Charles the Third was honest, but cheated.
Robert the Usurper was quickly defeated
Rudolph of France never brought up a child
Louis Transmarinus came back from exile
He was succeeded by his son Lothair
Louis the V died so young, unfair
Hugh Capet was nobilities hope
Robert the Second had fought with the Pope
Henry of France was a weak Capet.
Phillip survived to be excommunicated
Louis the Sixth defended from barons
Louis the Seventh Started the Rivalry with England
Phillip the Second was fickle and warlike.
Louis the Lion Conquered England downright
Louis the Ninth was a Catholic Saint
Phillip the Third the Treasury Drained
Fourth King Phillip seized all control for his Kind
Louis the Tenth was stubborn but Kind
Baby King John died less than a week old
Tall King Phillip held a shield of Gold
Charles the Fourth made the English King Humble
Phillip the Sixth caused the Hundred Year Rumble
John the Good at least had some honor
Charles the Wise needed some glamour
Uncles of Charles VI caused him some strife
Charles VII loved his mistress, not his wife
Louis XI hated his father
Charles VIII was a Great Valois bother
Louis XII never gave France a Son
King Francis I was an Artistic Patron
Henry II made the first Patent.
Francis II seized control of Scotland
Charles IX fought the Protestant People
Henry III saw Elizabeth as Feeble
Henry IV was a Huguenot
Louis XIII was an abstract fop
Sun King Louis was catholic and great
Louis XV died a little too late
Louis XVI lost his head
Louis XVII was king, or so they said
The National Convention made peoples heads roll
Then came the Directory, which took its toll
The French Consulate was a Bonaparte Plot
Emperor Napoleon brought the Empire on top
Napoleon II was a short-reigning fop
Louis XVIII took his brothers place
Charles X had a revolution to face
Honestly France needed not put up with
Louis XIX or Henry V
Louis Phillipe came home for the French
Monsieur Dupont refused to be trenched
Executive Commission was a short Oligarchy
Louis-Eugene Cavaignac didn’t remember the old monarchy
Louis Napoleons presidency was too absurd
In fact, he later became Napoleon III
Louis Jules Trochu was a Military Head
Adolphe Thiers was made president instead
Patrice de Mac-Mahon was a monarchist true
Jules Grevy was republican, while shrewd
Sadi Carnot was unfortunately stabbed
By Jean Casimir the power was grabbed
Felix Faure was a fine diplomat
Emile Loubet was president after that
Armand Fallières seemed to be ill
Raymond Poincare showed the Germans ill will
Paul Deschanel lasted less than a year
Alexandre Millerand showed a socialist steer
Gaston Doumergue had no fear of the pope
Did Paul Doumer survive being shot? Nope.
The Nazis made life for Albert Lebrun tricky
Phillipe Petain defended France from Vichy
The Provisional Government of France was glum,
Led by Gaulle, Gouin, Bidault, then Blum
Vincent Auriol was President Next
And Finally Cote, now France is vexed
Charle de Gaulle was full of French pride
Georges Pompidou stood by his side
Valéry Giscard d'Estaing saw France anew
Francois Mitterrand, he saw it too
Jacques Chirac was a good French man
Nicolas Sarkozy saw himself as Grand
François Hollande is President Today
Now I bid you adieu, so have a nice day
So as I'm french I will say proudly and loud : thank you !
Just a question : are you specifically interested in France or do you study other countries ? Not that they are equally interesting I know..
I love history. I decided since I knew all the American Presidents as well as English and Belgian Monarchs, I'd branch out.
I'd like to see that.
I like the form of a poem, it can really raise an interest in history in people who basically are not. Like make it studied by children or young adults as a game : what is this verse about ? in what points Le Brun's life could be tricky ?
Learning by gaming is what we all do or should, isn't it ?
Could that be extended to the world with a systematical approach ?
Japan, Korea and China, which are the main powers in this area, have quite some big dynasties there. Mixing their history as well, mainly through wars, not like in Europe where people like to mix through marriages.. and wars if necessary.. or not.
Africa, unfortunately has got an oral culture and nearly as much kings as inhabitants cos of the tribal system.
And as for the Middle East, where the Imams are more important than the kings, but at least, they have records.
I think those would be the most difficult parts of the world to study.
Anyway , let us know !
last question : are you a student ? 17 years old, you're going to school, aren't you ? Planning on history studies ?
I'd like to see that.

President of France through the first half of WWII? That sounds tricky, especially since he was captured by Germans.
Yah. I'm a senior, but I probably wond study it in college.
Impressive.
