lol, now, the second part of your question... that's interesting.
I usually go more for the dystopian strain when reading books about the future.
But, I've seen some interesting ones, post disaster, etc. One book that Dean Koontz wrote actually started from a point that there had ALREADY been a nuclear type war that threw humanity back into the caveman type setup.
Last Man on Earth, a short story book, is filled with all sorts of ideas on that count as well.
